Congrats to the Grad - Graduation Shaker Cards

Shaking Up Graduation with Shaker Cards

Jennifer Snyder here to congratulate all new graduates and parents/grandparents/step parents/ guardians of graduates.  Why not help that graduate shake up the future?

I'm talking about shaker cards of course.
I've been enjoying the new shaker card designs from Creative Embellishments.
These chipboard shaker sets are unique and fun to make, fill, and give.

This particular set of cards features the shakers and the cool Artist  Trading Cards from Creative Embellishments.

Here are the chipboard sets used:

Wondering what to use for shaker filler?
OK so now you have your shaker card made and you are ready to fill it. You have easy options!

I found a cool company called Buttons Galore and More, specializing in shaker mix.
They have an assortment of colors and bits for the perfect filler.  The one below is called Sparkletz - Commencement SPK128 complete with small balloons, stars and graduation caps.  Simply adorable yet perfect for masculine and feminine grads.

 The Sentiment

The sentiment stamp used on the card is from Spellbinders/ FSJ Inside & Out Stamp Set) and is stamped using a black ink also from Spellbinders/Fun Stampers Journey called Black Licorice True Color Fusion Ink Pad .

If you'd like to really make the stamp pop, then immediately cover the ink with clear embossing powder to heat set.  The clear embossing and heat setting seals the ink and gives a nice smooth sheen to the stamp making it pop a bit.

Happy New Year Artist Trading Coins (ATC's)?  Absolutely!

Creative Embellishments -Artist Trading Coins - Happy New Year for Graduation?  Absolutely!  Use them to mark the graduation year on the cards.  It's a perfect way to gussy up the card and use the ATC chippies in a smart resourceful way.

This set is actually perfect to note the year on any project or card.  Just tuck the ATC that says 'Happy New Year" away for another project.

Here is the second card. It's got more of a classic look however I still chose the Creative Embellishments -Artist Trading Coins - Happy New Year to make the year a sort of statement focal piece.

The chipboard treatments on the stars and the ATC were pretty easy.  I embossed them using a clear liquid dabber.  I think it is easier to apply to chipboard than trying to use an embossing stamp pad, and it provides better coverage.

I coated with Chunky Gold Embossing Enamel and painted with a bit of black and blue acrylic paint when dry -to blend with the papers.

Fancy Graduation Cards Made Easy

Graduation Cards with Spellbinders and Petaloo

It's graduation/commencement time.  Seems most everyone is off to a graduation ceremony, party or at least knows a recent graduate.  Today, graduations are celebrated for so many reasons;  the little wee ones moving from Pre-K to First Grade; dogs finishing up a training program and moving up a level; even moving positions in a company to the next level.
Graduation  is serious stuff!

I'm sharing in the celebrations with a couple of cards.   I have a few grads in my family so these will be given to my family members as they move forward with  exciting new starts in life.

My first card uses one of Petaloo/Floracraft's newest releases.
This card features the Petaloo/Floracraft  Botanica Collection -Gypsy Rose Bunch in Cream.
Actually it has one big flower in the center of the cluster and two smaller flowers nestled on each side.

I used a  recently released die from Spellbinders as well.   The die is Spellbinders Rebel Rose Untamed Heart Die.

OK here's what I absolutely ADORE about this die...
I love the elegance the die adds to the card without it being overly heart-like.  It conveys my affection in an artistic and graceful way without the mush and gush of a standard heart shape.

I'm giving the card to my 22yr old niece and while I love her dearly,  I don't know if she would favor a big 'ol mushy gushy heart card from Aunt Jen as congratulations on her achievement.  She's sassy and full of energy so Rebel Rose Untamed Heart Die is perfect.

And a few more close ups of the first card.
The paper is old My Minds Eye paper, part of the Lost and Found Collections. This one is called Sunshine.

Here is the second card I crafted.  This card features a new flower from the Botanica collection paired with an older Botanica in the same color.

There are the flowers I chose:
Petaloo Botanica Fairy Rose Bud in Red RS5013-192/4
Petaloo Botanica Collection - Faux Dried Flowers Ephemera in Red 1100-205
The flowers rest atop one of my beloved  Spellbinder dies.  This is
Here  are a few close ups at different angles.  The Red Elphemera flowers have floral berries in the packet so I used those as additional points of interest.

Keep your eye on the Petaloo website.  It will be moving soon and is being relocated to the Floracraft website.  Floracraft is the new owner of Petaloo.  You'll be able to see all the new flowers on that site.

JustRite Quick DIY Graduation Cards

It's Graduation Season -Let JustRite Help with the Cards

It's graduation season and we all seem to know someone moving up and moving on - whether it's the little darlin's graduating from pre-school to those more seasoned school go-ers moving on from college to their first job in the "real" world.

Too many parties to attend and summer is now here.  If you live in a place where the summer is way too short and your outside time is precious, you need some quick ideas for cards.

Let JustRite help keep it super simple yet classic.   They have the best sentiment stamps I have ever seen.  Really - I am blown away by the quality - clear, crisp images.

My super quick secret is the card matting.

This first card is clean and simple - super quick to make.  My super quick secret is the card matting.  Haaaaaaaaaa I used to cut my own card mats.  Seriously - phooey to that.  My straight edges are crazy and I have to place blame on my paper trimmer - it's killin' me.  I have this old paper trimmer that can't cut a straight line to save itself.  And yet I cannot part with it.  The old girl was the first scrapping item I purchased oh so many years ago.  So we co-exist and I sneak behind her back with JustRite's A2 Card Front Basics Dies DIE-05047.   haaaaaaaaa true!

So what is A2 Card Front Basics Dies DIE-05047 all about?  This wonderful die set has nesting rectangles that are perfect for card making mats.  You can knock out a few layers at a time and get a few cards done all at once.  Beauty!

The white top layer was first die cut, then embossed.  I added the ribbons and glued/taped then behind the top layer before I glued onto the card.  This way the ribbons look clean and tidy with no frayed edges.

This second card is equally easy.  Cut some mat layers and stamp the sentiments.  Call it a day and scoot off to the party.

Graduation Keepsakes Gift Boxes

Graduation Gift Box Keepsakes - with Blitsy

Gussy up graduation day with a cute gift box, party favor or table decoration. This keepsake graduation hat (mortarboard) is adorable and will be cherished as a reminder of the hard work it takes to achieve success.
So many uses for this Mortarboard:
  • Use it for treats or favors for the big graduation party
  • Tuck a small gift in the box as a nice surprise
  • Use it to store a college ring
  • Money and gift cards fit perfectly and are much beloved by any grad!
Here's how I made this:
Start with a round box like this.  This is a small 4x4 box - but boxes come in many sizes.
Step 1.
Paint entire box ( inside and out) with acrylic paint. I found a foam brush is fast and really gets into the edges of the box perfectly.
Step 2.
Add washi tape, glitter tape or ribbon as desired. I layered ribbon over gold glitter tape on the black hat.  I added extra glue to my trim so the glitter tape and ribbon stay in place for years to come.

Step 3.
Decorate box with sequin stars if desired.   I thought they added a nice decorative touch without over embellishing.  Plus they are great for any grad.

Step 4.
Cut a 5x5 square from chipboard.  This will be the top of the hat.   Paint to match the box.

Step 5.
I used a small tassel - like one used for a book mark. I cut the tassels loop in one place to create a longer string for attaching to the hat.

Step 6
Add a bit of glue to the tassel and attach to the hat,  then top with a sequin star.

Step 7
Personalize with Viva Decor Pearl Pen.
Step 8
Glue top to the base of the hat. A glue with a strong bond is suggested to withstand the frequent opening and closing of the box.
You can personalize if you want:
