Snow Globe Snowman- Shaker Ornament

Time to get those fun custom Christmas ornaments started.  I've had fun making interactive unique shaker ornaments using shaker mix and 3D buttons from Buttons Galore, and chipboard from Creative Embellishments

This ornament looks a little more complex because it has a snowflake and snowman tucked inside the globe, but that's simply dangling by wire.  Super easy!
Here's what you need:
7.  Ribbon of choice and other embellishments for finishing touch

The shaker mix is the key to the project.

You need to make the difficult decision...what shaker mix from Buttons Galore to use and which adorable 3D Buttons to pick for embellishments.    The shaker mix will help determine the color ribbons to be used and any other embellishments you add to the ornament.

This is what I selected for my cheery and festive ornament.  The options, color choices and themes are limitless.

Craft Wire and Glue?
When doing a project to hang on a tree, you know people will be handling and touching it.  You absolutely must make sure it's not going to crack open or fall apart. That's why I included a heavy durable glue made for a variety of surfaces including plastic (Beacons 3-in-1 glue is my favorite glue) and craft wire on the  product list.

Will hot glue work?  I'm not crazy about using super glue on anything.  Sure hot glue will probably work for the short term but it breaks down over time, loses it's ability to bond and your project will fall apart with a flurry of glitter and sequins.  And what does "over time " mean?  Could be a year from now or 5...but it will fail.

Why the Wire?
I take an extra measure of security- by wiring the top together.  I also use the wire to secure all decorations and embellishments to the ornament.  The gold wire is simple to use and is pretty so I don't really worry if some of the wire shows.

The wire will get wrapped around the top of the ornament to secure your embellishments including the ribbons and even the decorative button.

DIY Snowman Snow Globe Shaker Card - Tips and Video

Summer is finally here and I'm still making snowmen?  Am I crazy?
Yes - I certainly am - crazy for this die from Spellbinders.

I have been playing around and experimenting with Spellbinders Elegant 3D Vignettes (dimensional dies) by Becca Feeken.  This particular die is called Grand Dome.

I created my version of an adorable snowman snow globe card.
I've been waiting for summer to make an appearance - but I really do love snowmen and snow globes.   Extra fun bonus when I'm making a shaker card.

Here are the two Spellbinders dies I used for this DIY Snowman Snow Globe Shaker Card:

Here are the papers I used from the Vintage Winter collection by Maja Design:

The snow globe was created using the cool die from Spellbinders and Becca Feeken - Grand Dome .
The snowman is also a Spellbinders die -  Snowman Builder -  Small Die of the Month Club.

The Spellbinders Elegant 3D Dies by Becca Feeken were designed to help create unique dimensional cards and projects.  This means there are many layers - like a "sandwich".

Quick Video

Here is a quick 30 second video showing the snow globe shaker card in motion.
I just love making shaker cards.

Below is a photo of the shaker card "sandwich" needed to make this card.
The die has many pieces - meaning many layers to assemble in order to create the dimensional look.
My snowballs are actually little foam balls.   They work perfectly here.

I wanted the snow to shake and fall around the snowman and be a bit more dimensional.
In order to do that, I have provided my "sandwich" - describing the way I created the layers.
You can see a close up of the layers in the image below.

I cut the sweet snowman from the Maja Design Vintage Winter collection and glued him to the side of the shaker snow globe.

On the second side of the shaker card, I cut the image of the little boy throwing snowballs from the Maja Design paper.   Perfect for my card.

Thanks for stopping here to see my winter creation.  Now back to Summer....
