Prima Everyday Vintage Paintables - Sunflowers

Prima is rolling out a unique new collection called Everyday Vintage Paintable Note cards. The details can be found here.

I am presenting more examples of quick easy pocket pages with the Prima Everyday Vintage Collection - Paintables.   This collection is ideal for the fast projects and completed pages in minutes.

The florals and vintage appeal of the Everyday Vintage Paintables Cards where exactly what I had in mind for some photos I wanted to group.  Actually, the florals on the cards were perfect and the card sizes made my project easy for a quick pocket project.

The paintables are a heavy thick paper made perfect for custom alteration using paints, markers, chalks and inks.

On the card below, I accented the card by embossing with one of the new Finnabair stencils from the Elementals collection - 960551 Elementals Stencil.

After I inked the edges, I dabbed  Prima's new Honey Comb stamp around the edges - 960810 Clear Stamp Honey Comb.   I finished off with some of the new wood icons that Prima has designed - 569860 Wood Icon Embellishments -Flowers and Leaves.

Very simple and quick.

This card used the same basic embellishments as the card above with the  wood icons,   clear Honey Comb stamp and dyed seam binding.    The flowers are some of my favs,   Prima Bel Canto I Flowers (562175) and new tiny flowers, Prima Perles Flowers ( 555603).
This pocket page is a little different.  I used a piece of thin cardboard and covered with burlap to be the lase layer for the photo of my darling niece.

Look for these Prima products available in stores very soon.  Thanks for stopping by.

Prima Everyday Vintage Chalkboard Cards - Celebrating Your Wedding

This was created using Prima's new Everyday Vintage Chalkboard Cards.  They were created for pocket pages - Project Life Style creations, however you can do so much more with them if you want.

The Everyday Vintage Chalkboard Cards inspired me to take out some photos of my parents wedding day and play with some black and white images in preparation for their upcoming anniversary.  The Chalkboard cards help capture the elegance of that day.

I created  a quick pocket page featuring my parents wedding day.  The great thing about a pocket page is that you can make them as ornate as you want or just pop them in the pocket and be done.  These pages will be passed around the anniversary party with many hands touching them so the plastic pockets are a great way to preserve the photo and the embellishments.  ( Also keeps the art safe from people like me who tend to be "spillers and sloppers" at parties.  I spill everything - but usually just on myself. hehehe) - best to be safe.

I used some new Prima wood icons above (569907 Wood Icons Embelishments Words) and inked them with a few different chalks from Ingvild Bolme.  My choices were  to stay soft and delicate using Old Rose and Pastel Pink with the black chalkboard.

The card below has a new stencil on it from Finnabair's Elementals line -960551 Elementals Stencil.  The new stencils from Finnabair are divine.

This card used the new Say it in Crystal line (570422 Say It In Crystals) and a few of the tiny delicate flowers from Prima in a light pink.   The lace behind the photo brings in the feel of the gown.

Thanks for looking and keep your eyes out for the new releases to arrive in your favorite stores.

Maja Designs - Card Using Sofiero Collection

Here is a card I created using the limited edition Sofiero Collection by Maja Design.

It's birthday and card giving season for me so I am going to try my hand at card making.  This is for my sister's birthday.

This collection is Maja Design at it's elegant best.  Each paper is delicate and feminine and so hard to capture via photo.

This card used the A and B side of one sheet of Sofiero - The Magnificent Flower Street, product code SOF-617.   I  also added a paper doily and some tiny Prima flowers with some  generic floral berries.
The delicate chipboard heart is from Blue Fern Studios chipboard.

Thanks for looking.  Remember, the Sofiero Collection is limited so you don't want to miss it.

The Flying Unicorns Go to Vegas

Many of the Flying Unicorn Design Team members were fortunate enough to attend CHA this summer in Las Vegas.   CHA is  short for  Craft and Hobby Association and they sponsor trade shows two times a year to roll out new product.

Thanks to the kind invitation by Alda Stevens to bring us along with her...she took a giant risk with this motley bunch.   I am also certain that some of us ( most of us) will not have this invitation extended any time soon.  hahahaha

The trip was a nice relief for me as I was terribly busy preparing pieces to send to Prima and FabScraps to use as samples for each booth.  I could take the time to relax and celebrate the newest product releases.  However Vegas is no place to relax.

Here are a few of my photos from Vegas. At least the ones I can show.  I did bring my tripod and had it out on the Vegas strip a few times - dork that I am.  But I can tell you I was NOT the only dork out with a tripod.  The cell phone photos take great shots these days, but I still love my tripod for night shots.

Maja Design Sofiero Collection -Sunset

Here is another piece I created using the limited edition Sofiero Collection by Maja Design.

Soft and beautiful, I chose the browns and blues in this collection to work in a beach type theme.  We love the beach. I love these papers.  Why not combine both "loves".  So that is what I did.

This is a photo of my husband and me at the beach last year for  a perfect sunset. I cannot think of any collection more fitting for me to capture my beach memories.  The shells were also collected at this beach which makes the piece that much more memorable.

Here are some close ups.

I created some seaside texture using Shimmerz Texturez and some lace.
Thanks for looking.  Remember, the Sofiero Collection is limited so you don't want to miss it.

Beach Side Wedding - Maja Design

Here is a photo I took at a recent beach wedding.  shhhhhh, our little secret, but I have no idea who this lovely couple is.  I happened to be at a beach with my camera in hand, at sunset, when this couple strolled into my line of vision.  Oh, you bet I was excited.  I shot up from my beach chair so fast that I do believe I startled my husband.  He got the "no time to chat dear" look from me and I was off with my camera.

I have never been to a beach wedding at sunset, so I'll pretend this is my first.  I had fun. And to the lovely couple......God Bless for many many happy years.

When I got home from my trip, the Maja Sofiero collection was waiting for me.  Just perfect for this beach side wedding.

This is my first piece using the new limited edition collection from Maja Design. This gorgeous, soft and elegant collection is even more stunning  in person.

I used these two papers from the collection:
Maja Design -Sofiero Collection Princess Margareta's Garden SOF-622
Maja Design -Sofiero Collection -Strolling Down the Rose Path SOF-615

My paper beach has some masking tape sand ripples, a little dry wall tape  and some masking with molding paste.
The circle looking paper is dry wall tape with some ink rubbed over it.  Really cool and interesting stuff in a way that only paper people and dry wallers can appreciate.

The shells were from that same beach.

The Sofiero collection is only available for a limited time.
Thanks for looking.

I was captivated by the Mechanicals Trinkets and the stencil masks from Finnabair's Elementals collection. I decided to incorporate the metal pieces into something dimensional.  This is a little purse for going out on the town - maybe Vegas.

The Finnabair Elementals collection has wonderful canvases and intricate stencils.  They inspired me to create a little clutch purse and utilize the stencils to create some detailed work for the purse. The Finnabair Mechanicals Vintage trinkets were the perfect finishing pieces. Here is a link to the Prima post.

The image below features a few of the stamps included in the collection.  They have been transformed into faux manufacturers logo and stamp on my clutch.
Thanks for stopping and taking time out your day to peek at one of the new Prima Collection - available soon.

Flying Unicorns Kit of the Month - Sunset Dreams- Rose Frame

This was created using the Flying Unicorns Sunset Dreams Kit for July.
This is a reverse canvas.  I wanted a shadow box effect so I simply turned my canvas around and used the side with the wood frame.

First I inked the edges of the frame with Clearsnap Donna Salazar Mixd Media Inx in Vintage and a little Butternut.  Oh, a little Schoolhouse also.   Then I took some gel medium and rubbed it in with my finger tips. The gel medium helps blend the inks and smooths them out.

After my frame was dry, I laid some straw like mesh down and covered the inside of my canvas.   I did this just to add some texture to the project.

Next, back to work on the frame some more.  I cut up the acrylic overlay from the kit.  It was just beautiful and cheery.  I glued it to the edges of the canvas with generous amounts of Ranger Glossy Accents. This is a great product to have when you are using acrylics. It seems to bond to the acrylic quite nicely.

Last step, I used a white wash of a gesso and sandy cream colored acrylic paint.  What I mean by this is I mixed my sand colored paint with some white gesso, and then added a little water to thin it out.   I painted it on the frame with a foam brush with a quick light wispy  wave of the foam brush.

I did this because the overlay  was way to shiny for me. I was shooting for shabby chic and not shinny chic.

One last finishing touch, I tucked some orange burlap (from a prior Flying Unicorns kit)  here and there.  I also added a little molding paste over the top of the straw mesh.

Thanks for looking.

Flying Unicorns July Kit of the Month Sunset Dreams - Friends

This was created using the Flying Unicorns July Kit of the Month - Sunset Dreams.
This is an old vintage photo from the early 1900's. I liked the black and white image with the stark paper I chose.

I used a lot of gesso and paste and masking.  I also used the Claudine Hellmuth foam stamp that included in a prior Kit.  You can see the stamping in the corners.

I started by dabbing gesso on my paper with a  natural sponge.  Then I added the Shimmerz Texturz -Teal Me No Lies using the Prima 12x12 Quartrefoil mask.  After that dried, I used the mask again and used Dreamweaver Studio 490 Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste in Gold.  This paste is thick and when heated with heat gun, it has the most gorgeous rich gold tone.

I coated the metal Adornments with some Rub N Buff is Antique gold to give them  richness to blend with the gold embossing paste and my fibers. i really love the metal adornments that the Flying Unicorns carry in the store.  They are exclusively Unicorn.   If that makes sense.

Thanks for stopping by.  Please think about dropping by the Flying Unicorns and giving a few monthly challenges a try.  You do not need to use any Flying Unicorn products to join the fun.

Flying Unicorns Kit of the Month Sunset Dreams - I love You

I Loved You  yesterday,
I loved you still,
I always have
I always will.
That's a beautiful poem and way too pretty to cover over with a photo so I created my page to frame that poem. I wanted to make a page to reflect the beauty of the poem.

I used gesso on the patterned paper first.  Then I applied some texture to the page with the Shimmerz Texturez products.  You can't see the Tidy Widy too well but you can see the Crushed Coral.  Oh what a gorgeous coral color that is.

The doily has a little Mixd Media Inx in Mossy on it.
There is not much to the page in terms of technique, or embellishing but the poem is the star.

I ripped a little cardboard from a white box to use as the matting for the poem.  I save boxes to use.  Annoying habit of mine but thankfully my family is tolerant. I have found a few of "my boxes" in the trash and I was not as tolerant.  hahahaha

Thanks for looking here.  Remember that you never need to subscribe to Flying Unicorns kits. They are available to all until sold out.  You never need to use Flying Unicorn products or kits to participate in the challenges.  Use your own stash.  We  want you to feel comfortable.

Flying Unicorns -Off the Page Project for July ( Sunset Dreams)

Each month, the Flying Unicorns offers a kit for purchase. They always include a cool and interesting item that encourages you to think "off the page".  The kit is available on a first-come-first served basis.  Once they are gone, you will be left in the dust waiting till the next month.  hahaha.

There are no subscriptions at Flying Unicorns, which means we are NOT a Kit Club, but actually a Club that happens to sell kits as well.

This month, the "off the page" (or OTP as we call it) project is a wonderful canvas mini (6x6) book. The canvas is a rich natural color as you can see in the photos.  It's such a great backdrop for almost any palette. My palette is blues and whites and beachy neutrals.   I am headed to the beach for my annual trip to Florida so my head is already stuck "in the sand".  hehehe

My sand is actually a wonderful product that artist, Maggi Harding gave me as a scrappy gift.  She's so thoughtfull that way, enabling me to my full potential. Viva Decor Stone Art.  Looks just like sand.

Oh then there is Shona Keehn, another artist enabling me by introducing me to Shimmerz Texturz.  It is a paste that really does add texture to your page.  My white surf was made by using Shimmerz Tezturz Tidy Widy and the waves have Shimmerz  Texturz Teal Me No Lies
The rest of the page was made from items found within the July Sunset Dreams Kit.

Here is a page from the canvas book. I wanted the colors to match because it is a book and I wanted some continuity.

The page started off with a layer of gesso, then some Shimmerz Texturz in Tidy Widy.  While the Shimmerz was still wet, I added some Viva Decor 3D Stamp Paint - Lime Green Metallic (once again suggested by Maggi Harding as a "must" have).  Finally I swirled in some Imagine Crafts Creative Medium Gold which is like a gel medium with a gold tint.

I stuck the chipboard letters into the wet mixture to set and dry.

The bird is die cut from Kaisercraft Porcelain Rose collection. I ripped a small piece of cardboard and inked the edges with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Stain.

Thanks for looking.  Have a wonderful day.  I appreciate your time.
