Let's All Party - Spellbinders "Happy" Collection by Sharyn Sowell

Today I am celebrating Spellbinders new "Happy" collection  designed by Sharyn Sowell.  

Not only is the collection happy, it's filled with darling imagery, whimsy and heart warming silhouette scenes.  I selected the irresistible die, "Let's All Party", with a variety of "party animals" celebrating as animals do...with cake in the forest, of course.

The silhouette idea has been modified a bit to be a shadowed silhouette by adding a layer of color in front of the black die cuts.  Each colored silhouette piece needs to be backed by two pieces of black for the shadow effect.  

Add a birthday sentiment and turn the celebration into a wild birthday party (in the forest with bears, deer and bunnies).

My paper choice for this birthday bash is Graphic 45 BLOOM 8 x 8 Paper Pad .  Because the paper pack has the outdoor theme but with bold colors. The bold "solid" B sides of the paper made great contrasting silhouettes against black shadows.

Create Custom Shaker Cards with Chipboard from Creative Embellishments

When is a circle not JUST a circle?  When it becomes a cool shaker card. 

Inspired by the May challenge at Creative Embellishments.  

This month's challenge image is shown below.  

The rules are simple:  Be inspired by at least one element from the photo. Twist add something with wings to your project.... bird, butterfly, dragonfly, fairy, dragon etc

These cards featured today use the following chipboard elements;

In keeping with the dreamy imagery and jewel tones, I picked the purples and blues as my colors.  Creative Embellishments chipboard fairies will represent the winged twist requirement. 

Creative Embellishments released a new line of chipboard designs that cater to shaker makers...those of us who are addicted to making shaker cards.  The sets come with a pre-cut and perfectly sized acrylic piece to cover the shaker.  That's really important because the acrylic piece is the most critical and difficult part to create when making a shaker at home.  

So I ask again,  When is a circle not JUST a circle?  When it becomes a cool custom shaker card crafted using Creative Embellishments - Circle Shaker Set. 

Now the best part about this is that you can add any chipboard piece to decorate the circle and make a customized shaker. Just like the fairy that I added.

Wondering what to use for shaker filler? 

OK so now you have your shaker card made and you are ready to fill it.  Don't sit at your crafty desk and look around for little bits.  You have easy options!  

I filled with sequins and crystals from Buttons Galore - Sparkletz.  They have an assortment of colors and bits for the perfect filler.  A second option is using wood veneer pieces from Creative Embellishments (I used these in the egg shaker card - keep scrolling down).

TIP:  Add your filler then use a good adhesive to seal the shaker with the pre-cut acrylic piece that comes in the kit.  I used Beacons 3-in-1glue because it dries clear and works well with a  variety of surfaces ( acrylics, plastics, wood, metal, fabric, canvas).

Here is the second card created for the challenge.  I used the newly designed Steampunk Timepieces (set of 3) and topped with the chipboard Fairies.  

  

The treatments on the chipboard are really quite simple - acrylic paint and gold embossing powder.

Embellishing Cards Can be Easy

The Small Sentiment Words chipboard pieces are especially handy because the package contains so many options for expressing your thoughts. 

This is the second card.  There isn't a lot to this card.  It was easy to quick, but the Flourish Butterflies chipboard piece makes such a lovely focal point.  

No fancy chipboard treatments needed.  Simple is all you need sometimes.  This has been painted with acrylic paint. 

My paper choice is Graphic 45 Seasons Collection 12x12.

Elegant Dimensional Flower - Cards with Spellbinders

 Elegant 3D Cards (Part 2)

3D cards and pop-up cards are all the rage.  They are fun and unusual to make and even more fun to give.  I imagine the surprise and the blooming smile that spreads upon the face of the person opening the card.   

Spellbinders has a new line of 3D dies to add to the fun.  

Spellbinders has released the Elegant 3D collection by Becca Feeken/Amazing Paper Grace.  This collection is all about the layering and dimension.

Do you enjoy making your own flowers?   If you do, then I have a great set of dies that will help create perfect layers.  Plus, they even have a hole pre-punched in the center to keep the flowers stacked perfectly.  Worst part about flower making is punching the center holes.

Paper Choice and Other Supplies:

In addition, I am using Graphic 45 Secret Garden Collection 12x12  and some inks to create the vintage accenting in the flowers.  

I chose to use Finger Tip Daubers to apply the ink because they tend to make the application easier when using smaller pieces that need inking.
