Merry Cinnamon Fireball Cheers - Shaker Ornament

Here's an easy DIY project (adults only please) for those "hard to buy for" folks on your Christmas holiday list, Mini Fireball shaker ornaments.  

Start trimming the tree with some Fireball.   

DIY Instructions are quite simple: 

1.  Grab yourself a mini Fireball.  

2.  Celebrate with a few swigs. 

3. Fill with sequins, beads, buttons - crafty cheer stuff. 

4.  Tie a string around the top and gussy up the bottle - all holiday like and Christmassy. 

ENJOY your cinnamon craftiness.

Have yourself a cinnamon season of cheer (and be kind this season). 

Drink and drive responsibly too.  

Christmas Cards Using Border Dies - Spellbinders Large Die of the Month

Today I am featuring some Christmas cards made Spellbinders Large Die of the Month for December, Maja Design's  " Holiday In the Alps" paper collection and chipboard embellishments from Creative Embellishments.  

The "Holiday In the Alps" papers set the tone for my card and provided the inspiration.    

The enchanting vintage images and rich colors in the paper, a perfect fit for a decorative and festive border from Spellbinders Large Die of the Month.

Below is the image of the Large die this month.  It's a set of layered dies that can be used in various combinations.

Here is another card I made using Spellbinders Large Die of the Month of December. It's a different die from the set and used is quite a different way.  You can see the post here.

I made two cards for today's post.  The first card features the small ephemera border images.  The are embellished using Spellbinders border dies.  

Below is an image of the Maya Design ephemera sheet from the Holiday in the Alps collection used on the first card. 

Here is the second card.  Same border die but the reverse colors with red on white.  

The card was accented with chipboard Christmas Bulbs from Creative Embellishments that have been layered with foam.  The chipboard was embossed with Aged Ivory embossing powder from Stampendous.   This just may be my favorite embossing powder ever and the one where I keep well stocked in case I get snowed in for the winter. 

I also inked the chipboard edges with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink for blending purposes.

DIY Candy Cane Mason Jar Shaker Ornaments - 3 Easy Steps

DIY Candy Cane Mason Jar Shaker Ornaments  - in 3 easy steps

Making this sweet filled mason jar shaker ornament is as easy as 1,2,3!  

 I bought mini plastic mason jar ornaments at my local Joann Fabric store and loved the idea of filling with candy canes and shaker material from Buttons Galore.  

TIP to act fast: You can also get the mason jar ornaments from Joann.com  (hurry while still available).   

Step 1.  Fill the mason jar:  add candy canes and shaker mix from Buttons Galore and More   

Step 2.  Close up Jar - add ribbon to the side of the lid. 

Step 3. Finishing touches: embellish with bows, floral berries and an adorable 3D Button from  Buttons Galore

Let's break it down: 

Real candy canes were nothing but a sticky mess. The red/white striped straw makes  the perfect "candy cane".   Cut a few to size and pop in the jar. 

The shaker mix used on this ornament is Buttons Galore's Embellishment Bottle, Frosty Morning mix happens to be a combo of  buttons, sequins and beads.

I like to use wire on craft projects when I can to keep everything in place.  In this case, the adorable snowman 3D button has a sturdy shank on the back just perfect for securing with wire.  I hid the wire under the ribbon.  I'm sneaky like that.   

Finishing touches

The finishing touches include a 3D Button from Buttons Galore -Winter Wonderland combined with a bow and some floral berries.  

The finished ornament was super easy, adorable, charming and can be customized for that special person.

Snow Globe Snowman- Shaker Ornament

Time to get those fun custom Christmas ornaments started.  I've had fun making interactive unique shaker ornaments using shaker mix and 3D buttons from Buttons Galore, and chipboard from Creative Embellishments. 

This ornament looks a little more complex because it has a snowflake and snowman tucked inside the globe, but that's simply dangling by wire.  Super easy!  

Here's what you need: 

1.  Fillable ornament (plastic preferred)

2. Shaker mix ( Sparkletz from Buttons Galore - Don't Melt) 

3. Snowmen 3D Button from Buttons Galore

4. Chipboard snowflake from Creative Embellishments

5. Craft wire

6. Super durable glue that can be used on plastic

7.  Ribbon of choice and other embellishments for finishing touch

 The shaker mix is the key to the project.  

You need to make the difficult decision...what shaker mix from Buttons Galore to use and which adorable 3D Buttons to pick for embellishments.    The shaker mix will help determine the color ribbons to be used and any other embellishments you add to the ornament. 

This is what I selected for my cheery and festive ornament.  The options, color choices and themes are limitless.

Craft Wire and Glue?  

When doing a project to hang on a tree, you know people will be handling and touching it.  You absolutely must make sure it's not going to crack open or fall apart. That's why I included a heavy durable glue made for a variety of surfaces including plastic (Beacons 3-in-1 glue is my favorite glue) and craft wire on the  product list.

Will hot glue work?  I'm not crazy about using super glue on anything.  Sure hot glue will probably work for the short term but it breaks down over time, loses it's ability to bond and your project will fall apart with a flurry of glitter and sequins.  And what does "over time " mean?  Could be a year from now or 5...but it will fail.

Why the Wire? 
I take an extra measure of security- by wiring the top together.  I also use the wire to secure all decorations and embellishments to the ornament.  The gold wire is simple to use and is pretty so I don't really worry if some of the wire shows.  

The wire will get wrapped around the top of the ornament to secure your embellishments including the ribbons and even the decorative button.
