St Patricks Day Cards

I'm here with you today bringing some festive St Patrick's Day cards.  St. Patrick's Day is not just for the Irish...I'm not Irish at all.  But I sure love the festivities.  Any holiday that can bring folks together in joyous celebration is a beautiful day.

These cards combine Spellbinders dies and Creative Embellishments fun chipboard pieces for St. Patrick's Day.  There's still time to get those cards made.
I used the following pieces on my cards:

I love this card because I can save this and send anytime.  I left the Circle Doodle Frames (chipboard)
untreated, straight from the package.
The wood veneer Shamrock sits on the top left section of the wreath. I added a bit of mossy olive ink.
Finally, the clover cluster was painted white, then simply inked with olive and brown inks.
While I used the small chipboard word "luck"  as  a prop in the picture below,  here's the link to the Small Sentiment Words. They are perfectly sized for cards and tags.

I used the chipboard clover cluster here as well, nestled inside a decorative diecut frame from SpellbindersTallulah Frill Layering Frame - Chantilly Paper Lace Collection by Becca Feeken.

I used the same technique as in the above card - painted white, then simply inked with olive and brown inks.  I added a few accent mini gold balls.

Short on time?  Keep it simple.
Use the chipboard and veneer as the focal point on your cards.
I love the simplicity of the  wood veneer Shamrock .  I left it natural.
While there is not a lot to the last card, keep in mind sometimes you just need to get a card made.

Spring and Easter Wreath - Home Decor

Winter can be harsh for so many folks with the cold and dull gray skies.  In the dead of winter, I like to set my sights on Spring.  Spring for me is hope, warmth, start of new growth.

I am setting my sights on Spring by bringing a touch of  Spring/Easter to my home with a sweet Spring  8in x8in canvas adorned with delightful chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments.

The bunny is darling - perfect for quick Easter cards and projects...or even baby cards.
I simply painted mine with soft pink acrylic paint and coated with a crackle medium  like Crackle Accents by Ranger.  I also tossed in some gold micro beads (glitter works well also).

Next, I gussied up the Creative Embellishments -Fun Eggs by painting them with a creamy ivory acrylic, adding a simple piece of gold ribbon and topping with pink pearls.
Elegant and yet so very simple.

Just a bit about the 6 inch wreath/frame -Creative Embellishments Chipboard- Berry Frame 3.

I painted the berries with a variety of acrylic paints - ivory cream, pink and green.  Then I dabbed the berries with  Stickles Glitter Glue  to add some glitz and make the berries pop.  I'll tell ya, the Stickles really doesn't show well in photos but it has such a bedazzling look in person.

The Canvas Background Preparation
I  started with a plain 8in x8in canvas as my base.  I used some mists and watercolors to create the background of the canvas by adding one color at a time  with a paint brush and a bit of extra water and heat drying it between colors.  First the green, then the pink so that they don't run together and create olive drab mud.  The heating or at least drying process is important.
These are some color /product suggestions for the pinks and greens:

Home Decor Pumpkin Featured on Ustream

Pumpkin Season Is Upon Us

Pumpkin Season and Ustream!   I am hosting Ustream this week and will be recreating this pumpkin!

Stop by and watch the fun.  In time for Halloween and Thanksgiving decorating.  Wednesday at 9:00pm est for one hour of Uni-fun!

Flying Unicorn welcomes Autumn and what better way to celebrate than pumpkins.
Included in each main Your Passion Your Art kit is always an "Off the page " project to alter and decorate.  October's "Your Passion Your Art"   had a Darice paper mache pumpkin.

really had to sit down and contemplate this project and which direction I wanted to take it.  But then I went shopping to a home decor store and the decision was made for me.  They had some cool burlap  pumpkins that I really liked.  I decided to give it a whirl.

I attached the burlap using spray adhesive.  I found it was easier to apply the burlap than with using gooey glue that could seep through the burlap holes.  I did have to add some extra burlap at the stem and make it longer. The stem was small to begin with - and after I glued all the burlap to it, it disappeared - which is why I needed to make the stem longer.

I wrapped the pumpkin with jute to give the pumpkin it's shape back.  After that, I decorated it with all my wonderful Prima goodies, some flowers, the new trim and some leave vines.

I added some new Prima leaves and flowers from the Victorian Xmas collection.  And of course I had to add some raffia to give it a touch of country. Plus I have the biggest bag of raffia on the planet that I mail ordered -thought I was buying a small bag and ended with a crazy size.   Gotta use that stuff up one project at a time.

yeah is this not crazy?

That gold lace trim is Prima's new Memory Hardware Rocquencourt Doily Lace - from Frank Garcia. Gorgeous.  I need more.

When your flowers aren't the right color, just add some mist.  That's what I did here.  I sprayed them with Prima Color Bloom in Tangerine.
