Create a Pop and Twist Card with Spellbinders and Maja Design

Easy Pop and Twist Cards

Do you get that happy, satisfied feeling when you are sitting at your craft table pairing your favorite products?  I sure do.

Today I'd like to share a fun pop and twist card crafted by pairing Maja Design papers with Spellbinders dies designed by Becca Feeken.

Spellbinders and Becca Feeken have teamed together to present a monthly die club featuring the popular Amazing Paper Grace die designs - APG-Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month.  These dies are only available through the club.

I love cards that are surprises. This card is a total surprise.  When opened it pops out to present a beautiful summer garden gate.

Here is the die set for the Month of April from Spellbinders.  It has several embellishing dies to help gussy up the card in a variety of ways: flowers, a decorative panels, word dies that say "Thank You" and "Hello', "friend".

Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month Membership
Becca Feeken  has provided instructions on how to assemble the APG Die this Month into a cool twist card.
This is my interpretation of the die.

Here are the papers used from the Maja Design Summertime collection:
 Light Scarlet
It's Always the Best
Smell the Roses

While the inside of the card is the real "show-stopper", the outside is special and packed with beauty as well highlighting the delicate images found within the Summertime collection.

Thanks for stopping here.   Remember Summer is almost here!

How To Make a Shadowbox Valentines Set - DIY Tutorial

Todays I'd like to share a Valentine's gift set created using a combination of my favorite products - Spellbinders dies, Maja Design papers and embellishing accents from Creative Embellishments

My gift card set  has two elements, a decorative shadow box frame and a matching card.  The shadowbox frame was created with a cool new die from Spellbinders and Becca Feeken -   Spellbinders Adjustable Shadowbox Frame 1/2 inch - Becca Feeken.

Watch Becca Feeken's Video Tutorial...
If you scroll down, I added a link to Becca Feeken's video tutorial on YouTube.
The coolest thing about these frames is that they are totally adjustable and can be made in any size you desire.

I paired the dies with the gorgeous raspberry pinks in the Maja Design Summertime collection . Below is a look at the papers I used for the Shadowbox.
Smell the Roses
In the Garden Die Cuts
Flowers Everywhere (B side)

The beautiful flirty bicycle image is from the die cut sheet in the Summertime collection.

See those darling wood veneer hearts?  Those are from Creative Embellishments wood veneer hearts and I simply adore them because they are "conversation hearts" that I turn backwards so they become "all occasion" hearts.

The flowers were custom made using another Spellbinders die, Spellbinders Cinch and Go IV Shadowbox (Flowers) by Becca Feeken -
to customize and perfectly coordinate my project.

Next I made a matching card to accompany the Shadowbox Valentine.
The card was made using the following Maja Design Summertime papers and the delicate Spellbinders Lace Hearts die.  Yes it's a very simple card and still graceful.

Christmas Has Gone to the Dogs ( And Cats)

Pet owners love to receive cards from their pets.  I know I do.  It's a cute way to include our furry family in the celebration of a holiday or event.

Well, it's time for me to start making those pet cards, and just in time to use the new collection by Maja Design, "Joyous Winterdays".
Here is a list of the gorgeous papers used from the collection. (Scroll to the bottom and I'll show you where to shop for these lovely papers.)
"Pick a Tree"
The colors in this new collection combine winter blues and traditional Christmas colors of green and red resulting in an exquisite set of papers.  And as always, the papers have patterns that can also be used through the year - not just at holiday time.   BONUS!

I used the new Joyous Winterdays collection for my sweet dog card.
The sentiment says, "Have a tail-waggin Christmas"

The dog and kitty are from Tim Holtz "Mini Crazy Cats and Dogs" stamps and matching dies.  I'm obsessed with this die set. Here are a few other projects using this same set:

Puppy cards can be found here

I stamped dogs and cats using Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Mini Cats and Dogs stamp set and the coordinating die set - Sizzix Tim Holtz Mini Cats and Dogs framelits die  set Stamped onto watercolor paper.

My process:
stamp onto watercolor paper - die cut the figure after stamping - watercolor with a Watercolor Brush and Tim Holtz Distress inks in Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain
I also decided to create a kitty card using a very nontraditional collection of papers and colors featuring a raspberry red from Maja Design "Summertime" collection

This is more proof that any Maja Design collection can be used for multiple purposes.

Here is the list of papers I used from the Summertime collection:

Wedding Chapel Bride & Groom - DIY Tips with Petaloo and Maja Design

DIY Home Decor -Wedding Chapel
Sharing a fun piece of home decor I created to celebrate February, the month of love.  Nothing says true love like a wedding.  And nothing adds beauty to a project like Petaloo flowers.  I have added Petaloo gardens all around the chapel for warmth and charm.

This project was really fun to create because I paired some of my all-time favorite products: Maja Design PapersPetaloo  Flowers and Prima's Julie Nutting Doll Stamps.

I hope you enjoy my little photo session with the happy couple. If you scroll down a bit, I'll show you a few tips on how I created both the chapel and the bride and groom.

In this shot, I've placed the newlyweds in the back garden.  Here is a close up of the back garden complete with a trellis made from wood skewers and a chipboard birdhouse.
This back garden features the following flowers:

I used Maja Design's Summertime paper collection to create both the chapel and the bride's gown. This collection is soft , warm and perfect for a romantic day. If you skip to the Maja Design blog, you'll see the chapel featured in the monthly Mood Board .  Maybe you'll decide to play along with the Mood Board challenge this month.
Here is a photo of the Mood Board and the Summertime paper that I used.  You can see how wonderfully it fits the challenge.

This is a little peek at the side of the chapel with white picket fence and the following Petaloo flowers creeping through the fence:

The Chapel
This is how the chapel looked before it was covered and decorated.
This is a cardboard house that I purchased on clearance the end of the Christmas season from Michael's.  I am always watching for these types of little end-of-season treasures when I shop - at a discount of course.

I started covering the roof first, one punched strip at a time -starting at the bottom and working my way up, as roofing shingles would typically appear.

Each shingle strip is securely applied to the chapel using a coat of sealant on both sides.   I used matte finish Mod Podge.  There are other options as well- clear gel medium, or a thin mixture of white glue and water painted on each strip.

I created this piece for the Petaloo display booth at Creativation (formerly known as CHA)held this past January, so the Mod Podge protected the paper from fingerprints, ripping, peeling and actually provided more support to the cardboard structure.  It helps create a durable decor piece.

After the Mod Podge roofing was dried, I moved on to add some texture to the sides of the building.
The next few photos show how I combined stencils, stamps, and paste ( or heavy gesso) to create the appearance of brickwork.

Below is another side view of the chapel.  This side has a sweet Petaloo Darjeeling Butterflies - Teastained in cream.
Creating the Bride and Groom
Next , I'm moving on to showcase my bride and groom.  The beautiful blushing bride is carrying a Petaloo floral bouquet made of Petaloo Penny Lane - Forget Me Nots - Antique Red .
The handsome groom has a boutineer made of Petaloo Mini Daisy Petites Pink .

Now I'll share some of my tips for making the bride and groom from Prima's Julie Nutting Doll Stamps (Camille and Adam).   I love making the dolls 3-dimensional so they stand.  I believe I have come up with a very cool and simple doll stand that works nicely for this couple.

The first step is to stamp several layers for the body, including one layer of thin cardboard (chipboard). I want my doll to stand and be durable - not bendable.  This doll has a front and a back that people will see so it was important for me to make the back appealing.

To create the back, I stamped a third image and turned it around to use the un-stamped back side. The long bridal veil covers the backside perfectly so no stamping is really needed.

Next - I used a large binder clip for the base.  I removed the metal handles after the clip was in place. At this point, I was able to cover the binder clip with more stamped layers creating the dress.
Here is the side view showing the binder clip and how I covered the clip with paper layers.

I  snuggled the groom up behind his bride and glued them together for life.  I covered the backside up with the long lace veil.  You cannot tell that the backsides are not stamped.

Here is a view of the bottom of the clip.  They stand perfectly balanced.
Here are some additional photos of the joyful event.  More garden shots, and a photo of the front steeple.  The beautiful heart shape on the steeple is a resin piece that Petaloo made a few years back.  I had been saving it for a perfect occasion.

Seaside Summertime Card with Maja Design

I'm here to share a card I made for my sister.  My husband and I adore the ocean and beach.  Each summer, my sister kindly lets us stay at her vacation home in Florida near the ocean.  This is my "thank you" to her for opening her vacation home to us.
My card features the Summertime collection by Maja Design - especially the die cut sheet.  Look how darling the image is?

I embellished the card with some die cuts of my own from Spellbinders and Joy Crafts in a nautical theme.

Because I used the sweet image from the die set, no need to add many other embellishments.  I let the papers do most of my "talking".

Thanks so much for stopping here to visit.   You can use the helpful Store Finder link to shop for your Maja Design collections.  The link can be found here
