Floral Shaker Cards Straight From The Garden

I'm sharing shaker cards created for the August challenge at Creative Embellishments. These cards are blooming with the colors of a beautiful garden in August. 

Below is the image for the challenge.  Let the image inspire you to create any project you want but you must use a product from Creative Embellishments.  

 First Card  

I used some newly released designs to create my floral shaker.  Here are the chipboard pieces used on this card: 

********************************************************************************* Creative Embellishments -Circle Shaker - Chipboard Shaker Set     Creative Embellishments - Berries Creative Embellishments - Leaves Set 1 ********************************************************************************* I painted the chipboard with various layers of acrylic paint - starting with white/light ivory.  I prefer the white/ivory as a base coat when I want the final chipboard project to be lighter or pastel.   The stippled effect on the chipboard pieces was caused by  dabbing paint with a dry sea sponge.   The magic of a shaker card happens when the shaker mix is added.  With that in mind, I picked my Creative Embellishments chipboard and shaker mix from  28 Lilac Lane / Buttons Galore and More.  28 Lilac Lane WISTERIA HUES Sequin Mix PS600 My paper choice for this card is from Stamperia - Lilac Flowers.  It's a dreamy 12x12 floral collection with all the beautiful purple flowers and butterflies straight from the storybook garden.  Stamperia - Scrapbooking 12 x 12 Collection Pack - Lilac Flowers Second Card   I used some newly released designed to create the second floral shaker inspired by the August Challenge at Creative Embellishments.   I used 28 Lilac Lane's WISTERIA HUES Sequin Mix on this card as well.  It's just a gorgeous mix of greens and purples with the prefect touch of  rose pink.    Here are the chipboard and paper used on this second card. Shaker Card Filled with Love - Chipboard, Sequins and Maya Design

Today I have a card created with denim and filled with love. 

Created with denim?  Yes indeed.  The papers used are from Maja Design - Denim & Girls 12x12 paper collection .  

Filled with love?  Absolutely - the Love themed chipboard is from Creative Embellishments with fun shaker material from 28 Lilac Lane, adding even more fun love.  

Maja Design has the perfect coordinating solid collection to pair with  Denim & Girls , taking the stress out of color matching.  It's the fabulous Monochrome Collection - Shades of Denim.  They have added 6 new shades to coordinate perfectly with the Denim & Girls papers.

In addition to the soft feminine papers and patters, I used chipboard from Creative Embellishments as my minimal embellishments.  Yes this card is a bit clean and simple in it's look, however I felt adding flowers and bows would have taken away from the elegance and grace of the card. 

This card has one additional added surprise because it is a shaker card.  I love creating shakers  as I  imagine the look on someone's face as they open a shaker card. 

This card is filled with shaker mix from 28 Lilac Lane and the mix is called "Marshmallow".

After painting the chipboard with cream acrylic paints and creating the shaker section, I added a  doily chipboard piece, giving the shaker a nice delicate decorative edge.

I also added small string pearls to the outside of the shaker to cover the chipboard seams and give a finished polished look.

Sea Turtle Shaker Card

Shaking things up - Shaker Cards

I'm shaking June up a bit with a shaker scene from the ocean in order to play along with the July Challenge at Creative Embellishments.  

Creative Embellishments Artist Trading Coins (ATC's) are the focus of my card design.  

ATC's are trendy and fun to use on a multitude of projects.  For me, they are the perfect size for card making.  The abundant "blank space" on many of the ATC's makes them great candidates for shaker cards.

Here is the image from the Challenge this month. This is a bit different. It's a color challenge with a monochromatic theme.   OK I added a few green accents, but green is blue but with more yellow added...am I right?  

Most of the chipboard has simply been painted with acrylic paint.  

The sea turtles  may look complex but looks are totally deceiving.  They were topped with a variety of Liquid Pearls Pearlescent paint.  

I prefer using Liquid Pearls on chipboard that has distinct engraved markings - like the shell.  I am not skilled with the paintbrush because my hands are too jittery (could be too much coffee and tea).

I also try avoiding any possibility of paints bleeding outside the lines. 

 Yes, I am a "color inside the lines" kind of gal.   

At any rate, the Liquid Pearls provides controlled and clean brilliance.

My inspiration for this card actually started with the Peacock Feathers Shaker Mix, from Buttons Galore and More - 28 Lilac Lane,  with it's gorgeous blue and green sequins, buttons, and beads.  It reminds me of the blue/green hues of the Caribbean Ocean.  

 Thus a shaker card idea was born featuring on of my favorite majestic sea creatures, the sea turtle.

Wondering what to use for shaker filler? 

OK so now you have your shaker card made and you are ready to fill it.  Don't sit at your crafty desk and look around for little bits.  You have easy options!
Beads, Sequins, 

I filled with sequins and crystals from Buttons Galore - Sparkletz.  They have an assortment of colors and bits for the perfect filler.  

TIP:  Add your filler then use a good adhesive to seal the shaker with the pre-cut acrylic piece that comes in the kit.  I used Beacons 3-in-1glue because it dries clear and works well with a  variety of surfaces ( acrylics, plastics, wood, metal, fabric, canvas).
