Cute Rain Boots and Pickup Trucks -Spellbinders Cardmaker Stamps

 What do rain boots and pickup trucks have in common?  Nothing really except they are both part of Spellbinders fun Carmaker collection.  ( sorry - that was a trick question).  

The Spellbinders Carmaker images are great for all purpose and year round greeting cards.

Here is the first card created for my husband's brother.  I saw the image and it was perfect for my brother-in-law.  Their parents owned a gas station when they were growing up and it really spoke to my heart.  

My husband saw the card and he love the strong images as well.  

The next set of cards features the adorable  Spellbinders Cute Boots Clear Stamp Set from Cardmaker Stamp Collection. 

Additional Information

The stamps were stamped on to watercolor paper ( Neenah Classic Crest 80 LB SMOOTH SOLAR WHITE Paper Pack 25 Sheets) using the MISTI 12 x 12 - Most Incredible Stamp Tool Invented stamping platform and colored using watercolor pencils. 

I like the Neenah watercolor paper I'm using because it has absolutely no texture allowing for a perfect stamped image especially when used with the MISTI stamp platform for stamping.  I used to dislike stamping because I was sloppy, never could get the stamping right, ruined projects, wasted paper and had bad experiences. The frustration alone made me avoid stamps.  

 While  the MISTI  is a pricy product, I eliminate wasted paper because I can get a perfect image every time.  I really do enjoy the process now and find myself reaching for stamps more and more.

Christmas Pickup Truck with Shaker Greeting - DIY Home Decor (With Instructions)

 

Christmas Pickup Truck - DIY Home Decor

Hello friends.  Today I'm in the Christmas decorating mood.  I created a wooden home décor piece  for my front door using Creative Embellishments wooden Home Décor pieces.  Scroll down to see the tips and DIY instructions to make these pieces.

The Pickup Truck Back 

Let's start with the wood home decor Truck Back.  This is laser cut and etched 3/16" thick plywood and is clean, smooth and ready to be altered any way you choose - paint, paper, whatever. It's also quite large measuring 11.9"w x 10.7"h making this perfect for front door decor, as a wall hanging, table top conversation piece or gift.  

This was painted with basic acrylic paints then sanded in places to add back the worn rustic look.  Next step in the process - inking with Black Soot and Walnut Stain distress inks to create shading and depth.  I do love  using Blending Brushes for shading the wood decor pieces because the blending brushes provide a smooth feathered transition on the project.  

Chipboard Decorative Pieces  - The Trees and Wreath

The following chipboard pieces were used to decorate the truck: Christmas Wreaths, Mini Wreaths, and tall pine trees.  The pieces were painted with acrylic paint and texturized by mixing Forest Moss Distress Paint with clear 3D Gel or Heavy Body Gel  ( or clear translucent molding paste).

Before adding the trunk layer to the wood base, the trees were glued down and brown/black gingham fabric tucked into place for vintage appeal.  

To compensate for the extra bulk  of the trees and fabric, and allow the trunk piece to lie flat, I added a large piece of cardboard  for support and level out the trunk piece. 

Creating the Wreath Shaker

I added a fun shaker to the trunk by combining two of the chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments:  Christmas Wreaths and  Mini Wreaths.  While these are not shaker sets, they are easily transformed into shakers by cutting a middle layer of foam and adding an acrylic window.  

Special Note:  Do not stress over matching up the berries on the wreaths.  The wreath looks fuller and more dimensional when the berries on the bottom layer do not align with the berries on the top layer.

The Shaker Mix and Button Embellishments

The secret to a fabulous shaker is the magic of the shaker mix. The wreath shaker is filled with Buttons Galore DooDadz in Merry Mimosa.  DooDadz are new at Buttons Galore and spectacularly fun.  They combine iridescent "confetti" pieces with beads and flat diamond cut gems.    

I tossed a few buttons from Buttons Galore Shaker - Dragon Fire Bottle Mix  into the shaker before closing up.  

Finishing Touches

Finishing touches on the shaker wreath include adding some gems from Merry Mimosa DooDadz , some red buttons from the Dragon Fire Bottle Mix, and a small gingham bow. 

Special Note:  I used wire to attach the buttons to the shaker wreath for durability.

Vintage Americana Shaker Cards with Western Flair

Hello crafty friends.  

Today my goal is to celebrate July 4th using products that are not necessarily patriotic...at first glance.  

 I'm here with some country Americana style cards for Independence Day featuring a variety of chipboard - both traditional chipboard pieces mixed with shakers sets from Creative Embellishments.  I've combined with Authentique paper collections that are definitely not patriotically themed however they work very successfully.

The boot shaker was fun to turn into a Western Americana piece by adding tiny patterned paper to the sections of the boot.  To do this, I used the detailed layer as the bottom glued to the base.  Typically, I'd use that detailed layer for the top, but in adding the patterned paper it no longer worked as a transparent shaker window.  

If you are wondering what the best glue is for assembling the chipboard shakers, I recommend something that has a strong bond, dries clear, is used on multiple surfaces, and has a fine tip for dispensing thin lines of glue.   I have a few brands I like.  

Nuvo - Deluxe Adhesive

The bunting at the top of the card was made using a sheet from Authentique Paper - Voyage Collection - 6 x 6 Paper Pad Bundle which has been folded accordion style, folded in the middle,  the ends glued together and fanned out. 

 After the bunting base was made , it was topped with Creative Embellishments - Lacy Border Chipboard set that has been inked dark brown and cut into sections to tuck under the bunting.

It makes for a very dramatic and vintage style bunting.  

I chose some unusual Authentique papers to create the cards. Authentique papers are super versatile and the cards I created show this quite perfectly.  I combined papers from two collections :  Authentique's Manly collection and Voyage collection.  I also combined the 12" x 12" sheets with the 6"patterns.

Here is my second card.  This is also a shaker card but with an old vintage looking pickup truck as the focal piece.   I love the tiny star patterned papers from the 6x6 Voyage collection.  

The pickup, circle and decorative star pieces are from Creative Embellishments.  I think the chipboard accents help make the fabulous patterned paper pop.  

The chipboard treatment on the pickup was fun to make.  I used a variety of inks and paint markers to color the car (Fired Brick and Aged Mahogany) and blending brushes to color the reds in the truck.    Next I gave the truck accents of white, silver and black using a combination of products from sharpie markers to inks.  

The stars were embossed with gold embossing powder and backed with Authentique paper.

 

The sequin shaker mix used on both shaker cards is from Buttons Galore and More/ 28 Lilac Lane.  This mix is called:  Golden Sequin Mix in Cello Bag and is a beautiful vintage gold.
