Oh Sew Beautiful Collection - from FabScraps

FabScraps has a wonderful and most unique product idea.  When they issue a new collection, they also release coordinating chipboard pieces.  As if that is not cool enough, FabScraps also creates matching die cuts for the chipboard pieces.    In case you were wondering how I managed to get this wonderful dress form to be so perfectly covered.  

Thank heaven I did not have to fussy cut this!  FabScraps has done the fussy cutting for me.  THANK YOU!

The dress from chipboard has an elegant feel to it so I chose to make my project lacy and elegant and very feminine: lace, string pearls, flowers, Prima pearl flourishes - the works.

I added the words very simply by printing them on card stock and adhering them to the canvas using a matte gel medium.  I find the matte gel medium holds the paper on the canvas and does not allow the edges of the paper to roll and curve.

• FabScraps – Oh Sew Beautiful Collection – Journal Set Dies MC68001A
• Flowers - Prima Raelynn Ravishing 574796
• Resin Butterflies - Prima 891992
• Wide Lace Trim – 12 inches in length
• Pearl Flourish - Prima 529291
• Cardboard or foam dimension tape
• Gesso or white paint
• Button or Flair Button/brad - Prima Flair Button -Everyday Vintage 813369

Instructions

1.     Background  Preparation:

2.     Cut FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful  Collection Vintage Buttons C68006 into 8x8 square and apply to an 8x8 canvas ( use water and glue mixture of gel medium for best results and roll with a brayer to remove all  ripples and bubbles )

3.     Using a whitewash made form gesso or thinned white acrylic paint and a sponge, cover the FabScraps C68006 paper completely with a little heavier concentration on the center – to lighten the paper.

4.     Choose piece from FabScraps  - Oh Sew Beautiful – Journal Set Dies MC68001A  that looks like rulers or measuring tapes.  Cut one of the rulers out and back it with cardboard or foam dimension tape.  Glue remaining piece to the canvas starting at the center.  Then glue the dimensional ruler to the bottom of the the page.  This adds interest to the canvas by introducing more dimension.

5.     Chipboard Preparation

6.     Cut FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful – Mannequin Chipboard DC68013 – select the larger chipboard mannequin and cover with your choice of coordinating  die cut from the FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful Journal Set MC68001A. 

7.     Drape wide lace trim around the dress form and let loosely flow down and around the canvas, securing with glue here and there.

8.     Embellishing and Finishing Touches:

9.     Add pearl flourish to the canvas, draping slightly over the dress form and the lace.

10.   I also added some string pearls to the bottom of the canvas, draped around the lace.

11.   Add resin butterflies.

12.   Complete with flowers, buttons, brads, flair buttons, and leaves as desired.

or Oh so Fab-ulous as I like to call it. 

This collection is indeed beautiful but also has a wonderful clever assortment of FabScraps chipboard that compliments the collection.   I decided to adorn mine with some vintage charm using lots of lace and gold embossing powder. 

The chipboard pieces are just perfect - the little thimble and  sewing bobbins.  FabScraps has thought of it all.

The scissors in the photo below are a combination of the chipboard from the collection with the stickers from the collection over the top.   I love this little piece.

Instructions

1.     Chipboard Hanger Preparation:

2.     Using  FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful  Collection  Chipboard DC68001, cover the hanger  using FabScraps  Oh Sew Beautiful  - Floral Pattern Paper C68002.

3.     Ink edges of paper with brown ink.

4.     Add gold trim to the bottom of the Hanger. 

5.     Use a gold doily or emboss or paint a doily gold.  Cut to fit the center bottom section of the Hanger as a decorative fancy accent. 

6.     Top doily with Gold painted FabScraps Filigree Embellishment – Old Metal frame E6009.  I painted gold to blend better.

7.     Top Old Metal Frame with a button from your stash or cut one from FabScraps Oh Sew Pretty  - Buttons paper C68006.

8.     Add a little gold  doily piece to the curved neck of the hanger. 

9.     Top the doily with a lace bow and ribbon.  

10.   Finish the hanger with a button from  FabScraps Oh Sew Pretty  - Buttons paper C68006.

11.   Chipboard Bottom Preparation

12.   Cover flat bottom chipboard piece with  FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful – Dress Pattern paper C68007.

13.   Aligning at the bottom, cover the chipboard with wide lace.  The lace I used was 3.5in wide.

14.   Ink the edges of the chipboard. 

15.   Add gold trim to the top edge of the chipboard.

16.   Chipboard Accent Pieces:

17.   Thread spools – ink brown. Wind string, yarn, embroidery floss around them in different colors and keep about 6inches available to loosely drape on chipboard.   Glue to page.

18.   Scissors – paint gold and heat with heat gun while wet to make the paint bubble – adds texture.  Using the stickers from FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful – Scissors and Thimble Stickers pack ST68001, cut a scissors sticker to fit.  I pieced mine together as it is not an exact fit.  Glue to page.

19.   Bobbins - paint gold and heat with heat gun while wet to make the paint bubble.  Glue to page.

20.   Finishing Touches:

21.   Add thimble sticker from Scissors and Thimble Stickers pack ST68001 and Hook package from Sticker pack ST68002.  Extra tip – I adhere the stickers to cardstock first  to make the image pop better since the images are transparent.

22.   Top with buttons from stash as well as buttons cut from with  FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful – Dress Pattern paper C68007.

23.   Glue sting pearls on chipboard as desired.

24.   Add small Alphabets to the top to create a title. Ink each letter to provide definition before gluing.  

25.   Connect the hanger and flat chipboard piece together with the clips provided in set.

This is FabScraps "Oh Sew Beautiful" collection.  It's  quite a magnificent  new collection of elegance and originality the way only our friends in South Africa at FabScraps can do. 

The photo image I used is from Magic Moonlight Free Images - the place to get vintage images that are free of copyright restrictions.  You don't want to be messing with those nasty copyright lawyers.  YIKES!

I was completely inspired by the image, the realized the FabScraps papers accented her so beautifully (Sew Beautifully I should say).  

You can see a wonderful stick pin from Mandy Harrell aka Crafty Sprinkles in the crafting world.   It's tucked under the fabulous chippie dress form from FabScraps - as part of this collection.  

 The Mannequin Chipboard ( product DC68013) has a coordinating die cut that one can glue on top of the chipboard as I have done.  It's made to match the paper collection and give you options on adorning the chippies that are made specifically for the collection. 

I added some Prima flowers, mists and sequins for accents.  You can see the product list as you scroll to the end of the post.   I also added some step by step instructions as to how I created this.  Super easy!!!

• Doily die or paper doilies - 
• Flowers - Prima Joulee Violet 567118
• Sequins
•  Lace Trim – Flowers
• Cardboard
• Heat Gun and embossing enamel, embossing ink
• Gesso or white paint
• Stick pin or beads and various trims (Stick pin from Mandy Harrell)
• Mists – Purple and green - Prima Color Bloom Iris 573744 and Lime Wedge 573850

Instructions

1.     Background  Preparation:

2.     Start with FabScraps Oh Sew Beautiful  Collection – Haberdashery paper C68008 as the base.

3.     Apply a thin uneven layer of gesso or white paint to the background paper  on the center of the page.  Let dry.

4.     Lightly splatter  purple mist on page in a few areas.  Do not be heavy handed and over-mist.  Hit with heat gun and when almost dry, dab with towel to remove the remaining wet area of mist.  This makes a cool water drip effect.

5.     Repeat step 4 with green mist.

6.     Photo Preparation:

7.     Cut a rectangle of cardboard that is slightly bigger than your photo.  Rip the top and bottom edges so the corrugation shows.

8.     Paint the cardboard with white paint. Let dry.

9.     Cover the edges with white embossing enamel and heat set.

10.   Glue photo to the cardboard.

11.   Glue to page.
