Frankie Goes to The North Pole - Spellbinders Small Die of the Month

Frankie the Snowman has a giant smile on his face this season and so will you when you see him.  Spellbinders Small Die of the Month for November is filled with nothing but jolly snowman smiles.   And we can all used some smiles.

This jolly snowman shaker card was crafted using Maja Design's classic Christmas collection called, " Holiday In the Alps". The collection is a unique collection of traditional Christmas images and colors, mixed with a set of traditional winter frosty colors and images.  This allows the versatility to use the paper to create wonderful DIY Christmas cards and then continue to enjoy the collection to send winter greetings as the new year starts. 

I really love the warm vintage appeal to the collection.  By the smile on the snowman's face, I think he likes the vintage look as well.

Instructions for Making the Shaker  Card Base

   Here's a quick set of DIY instructions to help you make your own shaker card base.  

Step 1.  "Maja Design -Holiday in the Alps  - Let it Snow 12x12" is the base of the card. Cut the paper 10in x6 in and crease in the middle at 5 inches.  This card is 5in x 6in when folded.

Step 2.  The top layer is "Maja Design -Holiday in the Alps  - Winter Night 12x12" and is slightly smaller than the card base.   The delicate scalloped circle was die cut using  Spellbinders Elegant Twist Circles Die from the Elegant Twist Collection by Becca Feeken  (sized 4.25in x 4.25in).

The edges of the top layer piece were inked with Walnut Distress Ink for definition.

Step 3.  Flip the layer over and add double sided tape to the back of the paper making sure the circle will be enclosed. This is going to be your window so you need to make sure there are no gaps in the tape.  

Step 4.  Cut a piece of tulle (or acrylic) to cover the window.  Secure in place.

Step 5.  Add shaker mix to the center of the card base and tape/glue the window layer in place securely over the shaker mix.   Now you are ready to decorate.

There's Magic in the Shaker Mix 

OK  - there really isn't magic in the mix - but there is absolutely FUN in the shaker mix. 

This card is filled with Buttons Galore's December Dream Sparkletz shaker mix - a collection of iridescent snowflake shaped sequins.  The snowflake sequins from the shaker mix also make amazing finishing accents on the card for an added bit of snowy glitz.  

 

Look how happy Frankie the snowman is?  His smile shakes off on everyone who sees him.

Seascape Cards and Shakers with Chipboard, Sequins and Foil

Sensational Seascape Cards

Today I want to share some seascape cards using sensational CE chipboard accented with the  Rinea Foil papers.   

All month long, Creative Embellishments has been featuring projects accented with foiled paper collections from Rinea.   The inspiration for my cards today started with the beautiful  Frosted Foil collection pack, full of turquoise and sapphire blues, silver and gold and used as backgrounds for the cards.   You'll see in the card samples how nicely the foils look when textures, like embossing folders, have been added.

Here are the chipboard pieces used on the mermaid card;  Mermaid Pair, sand dollar, and a shell.
The starfish and the seashell  chipboard pieces have been given a light whitewash using a sponge (white acrylic paint with water added to thin it out).

The Mermaid chipboard has been sponged with acrylic paints and embellished with sequins from Buttons Galore's Sparkletz collection called "Sea Level" .  I did this by adding a generous amount of Heavy Body Gel medium to the chipboard and placing the sequins into the gel to dry.
The gel dries crystal clear and acts like a super glue to keep the sequins in place. This is such an easy and clean looking way to add sequins and beads to a project ( and have them hold in place).

I added sand colored embossing powder  and more sequins to the background of the card for additional texture accenting the ripped Rinea foil paper.

Here is the second card today, featuring Creative Embellishments  - Gold Fish Shaker .
The shaker base has been heat embossed and filled with shaker mix from Buttons Galore.

The Frosted Foil paper was embossed and scrunched a bit to add extra texture.  After being glued to the card, I added the 3D fish buttons from Buttons Galore, and accent sequin bubbles.
