Wedding Party

Remembering This Day
A little bit about this layout.  It is a photo of my maternal grandmother's wedding with her being surrounded by her sisters.  I just love this photo and have such loving memories of each of those ladies.   You know those questions that are asked sometimes...if you could go back in history and experience one day, what would it be?   Mine would be this day, this photo, those tears of joy, that amazing union.

I created this using the Feb. Flying Unicorns kit, which featured Riddersholm papers from the Newport collection.  I wanted this to feel like spring with happy bright splashes of color.
I also added some chipboard pieces from 2Crafty.  I used the "Flora Heart"  and "Addy's Butterflies" .  You can find an assortment of 2Crafty chippies  at the Flying Unicorns.

I just left the chipboard neked - natural and did not paint or cover. The natural chipboard went nicely with my page.

So to add the paints and colors to the page, I first prepped the page with clear gesso.  It looks white when painted onto the page but does dry clear.   After totally dried, you can add mist, paints and inks to the page without the mediums soaking into the paper.

I also added a few pieces of washi tape in for more green accents.  This is green gingham tape.

Let's talk flowers:  my choices below are the Petaloo Ephemera in Coral, and Petaloo's Botanical is pink.  The tiny white ones are Petaloo Color Me Crazy Mini Velvet Blooms

Thanks for stopping by to visit.  You can find an assortment of 2Crafty Chipboard at the Flying Unicorn .

Quick Tags for Gifts - DIY in Minutes

http://www.flyingunicornstore.com

Our Small Art Big Passion is all about the love of making cards, tags atc's and anything in between. From Stamps, flowers, paper, embellishments and pretty things in between! These yummy goodies will enhance any of the kits or stand alone .

This month's kit features Sherry Baldy's "My Besties" 6x6 paper pad called "Pink Pink Pink".   As you can see, one of the sheets has her signature "My Besties " darlings on it - so that's the image I decided to highlight.  It's very sweet.  ( You can find more "My Besties " paper by Sherry Baldy right here in the Unicorn shop.)

The Small Art Big Passion kit also included a fascinating chipboard plaque that's sized 6inx7in - a pretty decent size  to hang in a bedroom wall, in a nook, on a door - pop a name on it and you've got a great door plaque.

This month our kit includes : 6x6 Sherri Baldy paper pad, 2 watercolor tags, laser Cut plaque, Petitie Alphas, 5 Brads, Resin Clocks x 4, 1 yard Seam Binding, Prima Chalk Ink, Laser cut keys, Butterfly metal die Burlap flowers by Petaloo.

This is the first tag I made.  They are simple mini gift tags meant to be tied to boxed and gift bags.  Totally not time intensive , week long projects.   You can write little notes on the back.  Just perfect.

I used the chipboard plaque piece that came in the Small Arts Big Passion Kit as my template for the tags.

Ink the edges of everything.

Ink the ribbon that came in the kit.  I want a nice soft vintage feel to the seam binding.  Just use the ink that is already on your pad.  No need to dip and re-ink.  You may over ink the ribbon if you dip again.

I added some Liquid Pearls to the roses on the patterned papers.   True enough that delicate Petal Pink Liquid Pearls will not show up on an internet photo, but it makes a difference when I am holding the tag.  It's there and it's a nice finishing touch.

Tag two is equally simple.  Nothing much to them, but then again does everything need to be difficult, time consuming and  involve intensive technique?  Nope, sometimes you simply need to get the tag done, placed on the gift, get yourself dressed and make it to the party on TIME for once instead of fiddling with details.  OK - I'm clearly talking about myself and not you.

Top with a sweet little gemstone brad and some mini alpha stickers.    Doesn't get much easier.

Thanks for stopping.  You can find more "My Besties" papers right here in the Unicorn Shop.

Fun and Fabulous Heart Card DIY's

I'm here to celebrate Valentine's Day the Flying Unicorn way...with three DIY cards featuring hearts.  As we all know, hearts may be the symbol of Valentine's Day but  hearts are always perfect to use year round.
Washi Tape Heart Card
This card is bright cheery and happy...and flat for those who really want to stick with flat, easy to mail cards.   This is a washi tape card.   The Flying Unicorn store has a variety of washi tape including gorgeous ginghams,  chevrons, delicate flowers and trendy stripes.

Supplies:
Julie Nutting Stamp Set : Lots of Love 910488
Heart Punch or Die ( I used Spellbinders D-Lites Vines of Passion)
PreFolded card - 5.5x3.75
Washi Tape  - Flying Unicorns LimeC Checkers washi tape
Washi Tape - Flying Unicorns Pink Meadow
Washi Tape - Flying Unicorns Hot Pink Checkers

Instructions:
This design is meant to be used on a card sized 5.5in x3.75in

Step 1.  Cut a boarder from pink cardstock approx 1/4in smaller than the card.  Glue to card as a mat.
Step 2.  Cut a smaller white rectangle and punch or cut a heart shape  slightly off center.  Leave enough room for a sentiment.
Step 3. Place the rectangle from step 2 down onto the card and trace the heart shape with pencil.  When you remove the white rectangle, you will see the pencil outline from the heart.  This will show you exactly where to place your washi tape strips.  I covered the heart with strips of washi tape: LimeC checkersPink Meadow, and Hot Pink Checkers.

Step 4. Glue the top piece in place.
Step 5. Stamp your sentiment.  The sentiment is from Julie Nutting Stamp Set : Lots of Love.  These sets are great to use on everyday cards. the punched heart rectangle onto the card.  See how pretty this looks?

Here is a great card set that can be used as a sentiment for the card.  Here is another one, "Sending you warm wishes", how perfect.

Step 6.  As one final step, I used a very fine tip marker and added some faux stitching around the heart and then topped the card with a sweet little ribbon.

This is my second card.  It was made with wonderful Lemoncraft Christmas Wishes collection.  Yes, this is a Christmas collection but you would never know it.  It's a totally versatile collection.

Supplies:
Lemoncraft Christmas Wishes collection
Tim Holtz Walnut Stain Distress Ink
PreFolded card - 5.5x3.75
Lace Trim ( from my stash) but these are great choices and this
String ,  this wax cord  and this cord is great
Gingham Ribbon from my stash
Pearl bead

Instructions:
This design is meant to be used on a card sized 5.5in x3.75in

Step 1.  Cut layers, heart and strips of patterned paper.  Ink all the edges.

Step 2.  Assemble
Step 3.  Add lace and ribbon.

Step 4.  Top with the heart, cord and a pearl.

This is the third card.  This features the Maja Design  "Summer Crush" collection.

Step 3.  Cut your hearts out and ink the edges with Walnut Stain.  You'll have two large hearts and 1 small heart.

Step 4.  Glue the large hearts to the card. Add foam tape, pop dots or cardboard to the small heart for dimension.  Glue to card.

Step 7.  Tuck in a little trim ( I used brown gingham) and a hemp string bow.  Add a few embellishing pearls.

Two Delicate Cards

I'd like to share some cards I created by blending 2Crafty Chipboard  with elements of the Flying Unicorn February kit for the month.  It's always great when you can mix and match your favorite products.

I had some scraps leftover from my Flying Unicorn Feb kit that were perfect for cards.  The paper collection this month is from Riddersholm's Newport collection and it's peaceful and divine.

In addition to the Newport collection, you can find a great assortment of Riddersholm papers at the Flying Unicorn store.   You can also snag some gorgeous 2Crafty chipboard as well.

I left the 2Crafty chipboard pieces natural looking.  They make such a graceful statement on the cards.  Cards do not need to be super fancy in order to be appreciated.

The first card uses the elegant "Rose Vine Heart" chipboard piece.  The delicate scroll work is just exquisite.

I customized the lace from my stash to match the colors of the card by misting it with Prima's Color Bloom mist in Tea Stain.   The flower is a little dainty Petaloo Forget-Me-Not in mauve.

This is the second card.  I used the "Flower Spurt Chain" piece for this as a border.  Once again a very delicate chipboard piece that has a giant impact on the card.   You can see how gorgeous the Riddersholm Newport collection is, and why I didn't want to toss it out.
