I am giving away a collection of Maja Design papers to a lucky reader who leaves a comment on this blog post.  Drawing to be held 8/31/19.  

Today I have a quick template (tutorial) for a bi-fold card you can make in minutes and use for any occasion.   

I have to say Maya Design papers are perfect for this card design because they are always beautiful on both sides.  The hard part is deciding which side of the paper is you will use for the front of the card.  good luck with that difficult decision.  

My card uses the gorgeous, playful and flirty Denim & Girls collection from Maja Design.  Here is the list of papers:

Ripped Jeans (A side, the paisley design, on the back of the card)

  Ripped Jeans (B side, mauve pink used on the front of the card)

Loose Fit - B side

Instructions 

(My friend Billie Frey taught me this card technique  at a retreat.  I do not want to imply this is  my original design.)

Step 1.  Start with a 12x12 sheet of Maja Design paper.  You will see both sides of the paper on this card so make your selection keeping both the A and B sides of the paper.

Step 2.  Cut the paper in half lengthwise.  Trim the paper to 6in x 12in. Yep one 12x12 sheet can make two gorgeous cards.

Step 3. Using the image below,  decide which side of the paper is going to be the front of the card and score accordingly.  The best way to fold scored paper is to fold into the raised side. When paper is scored, it makes a raised side with a ridge and a channel or indented side. In order to keep your paper from cracking, have the ridge side become the inside the fold.

Score your paper at the 4in  and 8 inch marks.  Once scored, cut the corners off each end at the 3in mark.

Here is a shot of how your card should look folded.  Notice I set the corners aside at this stage.  We will be using them next.  

Step 4.  Time to use the corners to decorate the card.  Remember I said to choose paper carefully because you will see both sides of the paper on the card?  Glue the corners to the front flaps of the card to add interest and as a base to decorate.

Step 5.   Continue to decorate as you wish.

I decorated my card with some flowers, floral berries, ribbon and a chipboard birdhouse from Creative Embellishments.   The bottom sentiment, "Best Wishes", is a die cut from Spellbinders. 
  

As you can see, the card design is rather simple yet offers a unique way to use both sides of the gorgeous Maja Design papers on the same card.  I know how hard it can be to decide which side of the paper you want to use.  The patterns coordinate so perfectly.  

The sweet sentiment at the bottom is from Spellbinders - Sentiments Die -D-Lites.  I like this sentiment set in particular because it is small and on the delicate side.  You can tuck your sentiment anywhere on the card and not have ti detract from the other embellishments yet not so small that it gets lost on the card.

The other embellishing touch on this card is the little chipboard birdhouse from Creative Embellishments.  

This card shows one side flap open and one closed.

DIY Ornament Card with Template To Print

Authentique Believe Collection: Poinsettia Card 

I have a 2 part series of cards and tutorials I made for the Flying Unicorns using Authentique's paper and Petaloo flowers. This is Part 2.   You can find Part 1 right here featuring this card - with tutorial.  

   

This bright and cheery ornament shaped card was created using Authentique's Believe 6x6 paper pad.  While I understand the traditional colors of Christmas are red and green, these colors were so much fun to use from this paper pad - happy , joyful and  really inviting.   Thus I made an equally fun card befitting the papers.  The Petaloo flowers chosen for this card match perfectly.  

Here is a close up of the floral cluster of my ornament.  Scroll down and I'll show you how to assemble this.  Easy DIY instructions will get you on your way rather quickly.  

This card was made using a pre-folded cream card size 5in x 6.5 the the fold ending at the top of the card - at the top of the ornament. The card flips up to open.  

   I have a template that you can download as well right here.

Step 1.  For this card , you will use a folded piece of cardstock or a pre-folded card.  Align the template with the fold in cardstock.  

Cut the template out being mindful of the fold.  The card is designed to flip open upwards.  You want to make sure the fold is not cut.   The diameter of the card is 4.75inches.

Cut the ornament topper along the fold as well.

  This is what the base of your card will look like - flipping upward to open. 

Step 2.  The second circle on the template is for the decorative layers on the card.  Use the template to cut the smaller circles that you will use on the ornament.  

TIP: If you do not have a circle cutting tool - I suggest cutting  your stack of circles all at once so they are the exact size. When I cut the paper border strips to decorate the ornament, the edges lined up perfectly because I had cut all the circles at the same time.  

Step 3.  Next add the strips and borders to the card as desired...ribbons, punched strips...whatever.  Problem with circles is that you have that wretched arched edge to combat when cutting your borders.  But don't stress over the the sizing or the length and forget about that ridiculous arched edge.  

Why?   

Because I'm going to reveal the BEST CIRCLE TRIMMING TIP EVER.  

BEST CIRCLE TRIMMING TIP EVER:

Step 4.  Create leaves from the green flowers in the Petaloo Mulberry Street Mini Delphinium Green/Brown/Orange/Burg. These are gorgeous and perfectly matched and so easy to make.  

 Simply add a dab of glue to the green flower and pinch the petals together with your fingers.  BAM custom leaf. 

Step 5.  Start the base layer of the decorations.  Add some red sequin trim and pinch in the middle to give it more shape.  

Step 6.  Add the flowers, tuck your newly created leaves into the cluster and add some floral berries.  

Step 7.  Time to add the ornament topper and string to hang the ornament.  Locate the top of the ornament circle...this should be where your card folds.  Match the folds on the card to the ornament topper.  

Tie a small piece of cording to form a circle.  Tuck the cording between the topper, add glue and fold the topper closed over the cord.   The glued topper will hold the cord in place for an actual ornament to hang on the tree.

Victorian Christmas Stocking Card With DIY Patterns and Instructions

DIY Home Decor and Cards with Prima's Victorian Christmas -Part 2

I really loved the beautiful Prima Victorian Christmas collection by Frank Garcia.  I had some left over paper and thought I'd make a series of cards and a canvas for Christmas to use the collection.  I have 4 projects in total so I decided to split this into two posts and share all my step-by-step instructions, DIY tips and techniques for each project.    This is Part 2.

These are the papers included in the Victorian Christmas papers I used for my projects.   

Prima Victorian Christmas  - Stocking Card with downloadable template  

This is my sweet stocking card.  

I have created a template for you to print.  Just clink on the link here.  

Step 1. Fold a piece of paper or use pre-folded cardstock.  Align the tempate against the fold.  Cut the template out but make sure the places that touch the fold are not cut.  

Your card should resemble this when opened.  

Step 2. Cut a doily to fit the toes, heel and trim on the top of the stocking.  

Step 3. This is what the back of the stocking top looks like.  I tucked the gold trim behind the piece before gluing to the card.  It provides a clean finished look and keeps the ends of the trim from fraying.    

Finishing Touches: from here, you choose if you want to keep the card flat for easy and inexpensive mailing or add dimensional embellishments with your personal flair.

Victorian Christmas  - Stenciled Ornament Card

This card features the Victorian Christmas stencil.   For this card, I only share a stenciling tip.

I used the stencil that was part of  Prima's Victorian Christams collection for this card.  The stencil is obviously great for holidays  but perfect for all season as well.    Keep the stencil with the gift boxes handy for quick birthday cards.   

In this particular card, I really wanted to stencil  the ornaments.  To do this, you will want to block off the sections of the stencil that you do not want to include.    Slip a piece of paper under the stencil to keep the card clean of excess  stencil.  

Some people even add tape over the stencil sections they want to avoid.  

The credit card (used gift card) shown in the photo is another tool I use to spread the molding paste quickly and evenly.

How to Make A Festive Pumpkin Card for Fall

Pumpkin Season is Here!  

And I am celebrating at Blitsy.  Join in the harvest by creating a pumpkin card. 

I chose Simple Stories papers for this card.   I had some papers left over from a different project that were perfect for a traditional autumn feel.   There's no better way to use up your scraps than to make a card.  The Legacy collection has rich earthy colors and patterns which work perfectly for an Autumn themed card.  Blitsy has all the supplies you need for this card plus a step-by-step tutorial and even templates for you to use. !

I designed this card and created a template for you to download and use to make your own pumpkin card.  Try a few different color combinations and experiment a bit.  Have fun and enjoy.

I chose Simple Stories Legacy papers for this card because I had some papers left over from a different project. There's no better way to use up your scraps than to make a card. The Legacy collection has rich earthy colors and patterns which work perfectly for an Autumn themed card.

Step By Step Instructions

1.

Grab a pre-folded card or score your own card base. My card is a 5.5in x 5.5in square. I selected two pieces of patterned paper from Simple Stories Legacy collection - cut to size for layers and inked the edges for definition. The inking also adds warmth to the card and provides a "finishing touch".

 2.Time to cut your pumpkin pattern. Download the template and print out. The template is located at the end of the post. Select three sheets of patterned paper that coordinate nicely. Cut the patterns and ink the edges.

3.  I decided to add some orange to the pumpkin so I pulled out the Distress ink in Spiced Marmalaide and gave the pumpkin some golden orange shadowing.

4.   To create a little dimension (and still be able to fit easily into an envelope), I used foam tape on the bottom layer and used a thinner foam sheet for the middle layer -craft foam sheets also work nicely and are easy to use. You can add dimension or keep flat.

5.  Now mount the pumpkin onto the card. Add some earthy embellishments like hemp twine and raffia.

6.  This pumpkin needed some curly vines. I used the Spellbinders Shapeabilities Romantic Vines dies for this. The vines are also cut from the Simple Stories Legacy collection. I used the Spellbinders Tool-in-1 (poker tool) to help remove the vines from the dies. I'd be lost without my beloved Spellbinders Tool-in-1!!!

7.  Finish up by giving the pumpkin some glitz with stickles...and it's all done!
