My Besties by Sherri Baldy Cards and Tutorial, DIY

My Besties Stamps by Sherri Baldy
Today I'm sharing a second card featuring My Besties stamps by Sherri Baldy.  I was introduced to My Besties a few years ago at the 2014 Winter CHA .  I was working in a vendor booth and Sherri was our neighbor for a week.  I was totally enchanted - with each charming character more darling than the next.

Today I'm excited to get a chance to showcase my style.  I realize that each Bestie stamp is brimming with adorable details perfect for markers, colored pencils and ink.  That's probably how most of you are used to seeing these stamps.  Unfortunately I have no talent using markers so I do what I know - and that is paper piecing.  I shared my  process with you on my first card project using "My Besties" adorable stamps.   You can find that tutorial right  here as well as many close ups.

See my Step-by-Step tutorial right here

This card was created using MYB-907 stamp set.  Isn't she darling?  As you can probably tell, I like to add dimension to my cards.   I gave her wings dimension by stamping two sets of winds onto vellum and added gold embossing powder to the wings.  I cut the wings out and layered to the body of the stamp.

Little hidden secret...I glued a small piece of wood skewer under the vellum wings to keep them from being squished down.   You can't really see it in the photo above, but you can see a tiny bit in the photo below.

I finished her off with some thin gold braid for a hair band and gold pearls.   Her flowers and the paper selection is from Prima Marketing ( Tales of You & Me collection), and the red floral berries are from my miscellaneous stash.  The red berries add richness.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

My Besties Cards DIY

My Besties Stamps by Sherri Baldy

Today I'm sharing some sweet cards featuring My Besties stamps by Sherri Baldy.

If you scroll down, I'll share my process with you.

This card was created using "Bestie Party Ever" (MYB-902) stamp and Sherri's 8x8 paper pad called "The Blue Rose Garden (Aqua)".

Here is my process:

Step 1.  Stamp all the images and cut them out.  I stamped the body onto cardstock but the dress and balloons were stamped onto patterned paper.

Step 2.  I like to give all my paper pieces some definition by inking the edges. I stamped and cut an extra ruffle from the skirt because I will be layering them.
Step 3.  You can see in the image below,  I glued the paper pieces onto my background doll stamp.   As for the skirt, I created movement and dimension by tucking an extra layer of ruffles.
Step 4.  I picked out some background papers for layering and cut them to fit my card.  I also inked the edges of the paper before gluing to the card.
Step 5.  Once the background papers were glued down, I stamped a fresh image onto the card to complete the strings on the balloons.  I also punched a decorative border  and inked that with Distress ink.
Step 6.   Decorate as desired.  I added the sweet cupcake from the set and paper pieced that out using the same technique as the clothing. I added a few flowers, some gingham trim and some pink pearls to complete her.

.  Thanks so much for stopping by and thanks to Sherri Baldy for her imagination and artistic vision.

Quick Tags for Gifts - DIY in Minutes

http://www.flyingunicornstore.com

Our Small Art Big Passion is all about the love of making cards, tags atc's and anything in between. From Stamps, flowers, paper, embellishments and pretty things in between! These yummy goodies will enhance any of the kits or stand alone .

This month's kit features Sherry Baldy's "My Besties" 6x6 paper pad called "Pink Pink Pink".   As you can see, one of the sheets has her signature "My Besties " darlings on it - so that's the image I decided to highlight.  It's very sweet.  ( You can find more "My Besties " paper by Sherry Baldy right here in the Unicorn shop.)

The Small Art Big Passion kit also included a fascinating chipboard plaque that's sized 6inx7in - a pretty decent size  to hang in a bedroom wall, in a nook, on a door - pop a name on it and you've got a great door plaque.

This month our kit includes : 6x6 Sherri Baldy paper pad, 2 watercolor tags, laser Cut plaque, Petitie Alphas, 5 Brads, Resin Clocks x 4, 1 yard Seam Binding, Prima Chalk Ink, Laser cut keys, Butterfly metal die Burlap flowers by Petaloo.

This is the first tag I made.  They are simple mini gift tags meant to be tied to boxed and gift bags.  Totally not time intensive , week long projects.   You can write little notes on the back.  Just perfect.

I used the chipboard plaque piece that came in the Small Arts Big Passion Kit as my template for the tags.

Ink the edges of everything.

Ink the ribbon that came in the kit.  I want a nice soft vintage feel to the seam binding.  Just use the ink that is already on your pad.  No need to dip and re-ink.  You may over ink the ribbon if you dip again.

I added some Liquid Pearls to the roses on the patterned papers.   True enough that delicate Petal Pink Liquid Pearls will not show up on an internet photo, but it makes a difference when I am holding the tag.  It's there and it's a nice finishing touch.

Tag two is equally simple.  Nothing much to them, but then again does everything need to be difficult, time consuming and  involve intensive technique?  Nope, sometimes you simply need to get the tag done, placed on the gift, get yourself dressed and make it to the party on TIME for once instead of fiddling with details.  OK - I'm clearly talking about myself and not you.

Top with a sweet little gemstone brad and some mini alpha stickers.    Doesn't get much easier.

Sweet Wall Plaque

I used the Spellbinders Nestabilities Floral Ovals S4-356 to create my lovely focal point with "My Besties" image.  You can see below that i have some dimension to the diecut.

So here's what I did to create that effect.

1.  First I cut the "My Besties" image from the paper with the die.

2. I trimmed the frilly edges off the diecut and made it into just an oval.  If you look to the image below, you will see some dotted marks around the edges of the oval.  That's from the die.  That's how I knew to cut the perfect oval.

3. I mounted the oval onto cardboard.

4. I grabbed a second piece of Sherry's "My Besties" paper and also ran that through the die machine to become my mat.

5.  Ink up all the edges and glue to the plaque.

The plaque itself was covered in cream cardstock and accented with Tim Holtz Distress ink and Clearsnap Mixd Media Inx - Peaches for a nice blended look.

Here is the sweet close up of the image.
