Elf Shelf - Shaker Decor for Christmas - Spellbinders Large Die of the Month and Buttons Galore

Elf Shelf- DIY Home Decor Shaker - Spellbinders Large Die of the Month

Christmas is coming soon.  Want to know what clued me in?  The young parents at work are talking about elves and shelves.

I decided to create my own version of elves and shelves using Spellbinders Large Die of the Month for November - featuring the dies to make Santa and elves (and Mrs. Claus too).  You can see the  artistic image of the die set below.

Aren't these elves darling?  So let me show you how I made this sweet Christmas home decor piece.

I found a small enclosed shadow box frame at Hobby Lobby (sized 6in x 3.5in).  I knew I wanted to make a shelf for elves to sit, however the glass front was an extra bonus because I could put an extra spin on the project and turn it into a holiday decor shaker.

I cut two body shapes -both are double thick to help the elves stay sitting up and add support.  I folded them to fit the frame,  as shown in the image above and glued them in place.

It's that easy!

The Shaker Mix and 3D Button Embellishments

The shaker mix is a festive jolly blend of buttons, sequins, beads and colored pearls from Buttons Galore -Festive Traditions -Embellishment Bottles

In addition to the shaker mix, the piece was embellished using  adorable 3D buttons - all from Buttons Galore and More as well as individual buttons and sequins from the shaker mix.

One last noteworthy item is the background of the shaker shadow box. It's part of  Spellbinders  Merry Everything Christmas Kit - Limited Edition.

Don't forget...Spellbinders has a coordinating reindeer "add on" to complete the Large Die of the Month for November.   See how adorable the reindeer is? I added a button nose to transform the reindeer into Rudolph - the ever important main Rein"dude"

Create Fun Easter Shaker Cards with Chipboard

Happy Easter everyone.  Jennifer Snyder here sharing my Easter shaker cards made with the new shaker chipboard sets from Creative Embellishments.

Do you love shaker cards? I must say I am absolutely obsessed with making them.    They are always fun to make, fun to receive and create smile.  Nothing like knowing you are making a card that will bring joy to someone.

Creative Embellishments also has a fabulous variety of new shaker card designs.  The sets come with a pre-cut and perfectly sized acrylic piece to cover the shaker.  That's really important because the acrylic piece is the most critical and difficult part to create when making a shaker at home.

I used the Bunny and the Egg shapes for my cards today.

This is a close up of the bunny shaker card.  I painted all chipboard pieces with ivory acrylic paint, and added some pink cardstock for bunny ears and nose.

Wondering what to use for shaker filler?
OK so now you have your shaker card made and you are ready to fill it.  Don't sit at your crafty desk and look around for little bits.  You have easy options!

I filled with sequins and crystals from Buttons Galore - Sparkletz.  They have an assortment of colors and bits for the perfect filler.  A second option is using wood veneer pieces from Creative Embellishments (I used these in the egg shaker card - keep scrolling down).

TIP:  Add your filler then use a good adhesive to seal the shaker with the pre-cut acrylic piece that comes in the kit.  I used Beacons 3-in-1glue because it dries clear and works well with a  variety of surfaces ( acrylics, plastics, wood, metal, fabric, canvas).

The paper used on these cards is Doodlebug Design - Bunnyville 6x6 collection.
Totally adorable patterns for Easter.

Here is the second card created.  This is the traditional egg form painted with acrylic paints, then trimmed on the inside with lace and patterned paper for some egg-stra fancy embellishing.

I filled the egg card with adorable wood veneer pieces from Creative Embellishments.  They are perfectly sized to use as shaker card filler.

I simply painted with acrylic paints to look like traditional Easter candy - marshmallow peeps and jelly beans.

Christmas Card with Julie Nutting, Petaloo and JustRite

Merry Christmas with Julie Nutting, JustRite  and Petaloo
Time to rev up some holiday cheer and get that wish list started.  I have a few items that you'll definitely want to add to the list.  Maybe get the shopping done early and pop in a few items to use early (gotta be honest - I'm guilty of popping a few things into the cart for me to use before Christmas.  I just can't help myself).

For this card,  I pulled out the Prima/Julie Nutting Audrey Doll die and stamp, my JustRite stamps and die,  and Petaloo's gorgeous floral adornments.

The bright, festive paper choice is Doodle Bug Design  - Here Comes Santa Claus Collection.  Isn't it fun and cheery?
First, let me tell you a little about the doll stamp I used.  This is from Prima and Julie Nuttings summer 2016 release  -Audrey die and matching Audrey stamp.  The die makes the whole process a breeze.  No more fussy cutting so you have perfection with each cut of the die.
Tip:  In my opinion, it helps to stamp first, then use the die.

The Petaloo Botanica Vintage Velvet Dogwood's are a perfect match for the papers.  It's really hard to match red and I am quite satisfied.   Tucked into the floral cluster  are Petaloo's Botanica Glittered Star Pick and some pine branch punches.
In this photo, you can see the beautiful cursive greeting stamp.  This is from

I love to add layers to my doll stamps to give the skirts the appearance of movement.  The Echo Park paper collection provided a perfect selection of small bold patterns that enhance the layers in the skirt.

Thanks for stopping.  I hope your holiday season is filled with cheer.
