Unicorn Shaker Cards, Fairies and More

Hello crafty friends.  Today I'd like to share some cards made for the Creative Embellishments Monthly Challenge for June.  You still have plenty of time to "get in the game".  

Be inspired by the image below, grab some Creative Embellishments products, and spend some "you" time.  It's that easy.  Once your done, add your link to the Creative Embellishments blog post.  There are multiple ways to link projects.  The blog has all the details.  

 Well, there is a little twist that we like to toss in just for fun.   This month's twist?  Add lace to your project.  

Here are the chipboard pieces used on the cards featured today:  

The unicorn base was painted white and colored paper for the unicorn hair. 

The fairy and moon were embossed with gold.  

Nothing fancy - super easy.

I was inspired by the mystical fairy, and the way she is illuminated with a gold aura.  I added the gold tulle as my version of an aura.  It's also my take on the lace twist.  

She also is floating on a bed of bead and sequin shaker mix from Buttons Galore and More.  I thought they added fascinating texture to the card.  They are adhered with gel medium.  

Next is the fabulous Creative Embellishments - Unicorn Shaker.  This adorable design fits right in with the whole fantasy theme of the challenge image.   Once again, the shaker mix is from Buttons Galore.

I love the shakers from CE because each set comes with perfectly matching acrylic.

  The Shaker Mix

The magic to any shaker is the shaker mix.  A fabulous shaker needs great mix which is why I love mixes from Buttons Galore. 

They have so many colors, options and choices loaded with traditional sequins, uniquely shaped sequins, beads, buttons, gems, crystals, and more.   

The shaker mix used on the unicorn card is  Buttons Galore Sequins in Cello Bags- Lilac Ps747  and the sequin mix accents on the fairy moon card are from Buttons Galore - Plum Fancy PS766 - a blend of unique sequins.

My new favorite glue for assembling chipboard shaker cards is  Nuvo - Deluxe Adhesive because you can add the thinnest line of glue to each chipboard piece when building the walls of the shaker.  It's not runny or drippy and dries super clear.  I also don't have to panic if I have a little glue on the acrylic window.  Since it's crystal clear there is no worries.

Create Custom Shaker Cards with Chipboard from Creative Embellishments

When is a circle not JUST a circle?  When it becomes a cool shaker card. 

Inspired by the May challenge at Creative Embellishments.  

This month's challenge image is shown below.  

The rules are simple:  Be inspired by at least one element from the photo. Twist add something with wings to your project.... bird, butterfly, dragonfly, fairy, dragon etc

These cards featured today use the following chipboard elements;

In keeping with the dreamy imagery and jewel tones, I picked the purples and blues as my colors.  Creative Embellishments chipboard fairies will represent the winged twist requirement. 

Creative Embellishments released a new line of chipboard designs that cater to shaker makers...those of us who are addicted to making shaker cards.  The sets come with a pre-cut and perfectly sized acrylic piece to cover the shaker.  That's really important because the acrylic piece is the most critical and difficult part to create when making a shaker at home.  

So I ask again,  When is a circle not JUST a circle?  When it becomes a cool custom shaker card crafted using Creative Embellishments - Circle Shaker Set. 

Now the best part about this is that you can add any chipboard piece to decorate the circle and make a customized shaker. Just like the fairy that I added.

The papers used are Graphic 45 - Fairie Dust collection - a perfect fit for my vision.

Wondering what to use for shaker filler? 

OK so now you have your shaker card made and you are ready to fill it.  Don't sit at your crafty desk and look around for little bits.  You have easy options!  

I filled with sequins and crystals from Buttons Galore - Sparkletz.  They have an assortment of colors and bits for the perfect filler.  A second option is using wood veneer pieces from Creative Embellishments (I used these in the egg shaker card - keep scrolling down).

TIP:  Add your filler then use a good adhesive to seal the shaker with the pre-cut acrylic piece that comes in the kit.  I used Beacons 3-in-1glue because it dries clear and works well with a  variety of surfaces ( acrylics, plastics, wood, metal, fabric, canvas).

Here is the second card created for the challenge.  I used the newly designed Steampunk Timepieces (set of 3) and topped with the chipboard Fairies.  

  

The treatments on the chipboard are really quite simple - acrylic paint and gold embossing powder.
