Watercolor Spring Cards - Spellbinders Floral Beauties

 

Spring is Here!  I am celebrating with some quick cards created using new collection of  floral stamps from Spellbinders and designed by Sushma Hedge.  

The Watercolor Florals collection by Sushma has endless possibilities and color options.

The images were stamped onto watercolor paper then colored using Spellbinders / Fun Stampers Journey Color Splash Watercolor Pencils.  If you want to treat yourself to some AMAZING watercolor pencils, these are fabulous to consider.  

I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination.  I am fairly new to coloring but I'll tell ya, I am having FUN with this pencil set.  The pigmentation is rich and robust with smooth blending results. 

The ink used for watercolor stamps is equally important too.  The ink cannot run and bleed when wet.  I also prefer a crisp image.    

My favorite  stamping ink for watercolor use is Fun Stampers Journey  - Black Licorice True Color Fusion Ink Pad.

Tulips and Happy Thoughts - DIY Card with JustRite Stamps

Thinking of You!

 There are people all around us who could use a kind word of encouragement, a quick "pick-me-up" note, or even just mail.  Yep happy mail that is not a bill, a payment notice or junk mail. Gosh who isn't sick of receiving ONLY junk mail and bills in the mail.   

Raise your hands if you smile when you actually receive a card in the mail.  Come on...raise those hands.  

This card was made for just that reason.  It's a card that can be popped in the mail and can mean so much to the recipient.  JustRite's Rose Garden and Leaves Clear Stamp helped to make this super easy.   Scroll down and I'll tell you how I made this.

DIY Instructions: 

Step 1.  I used a pencil and drew a circle to start my tulip wreath.  The circle helps me in the stamping process and lets me know where I should be placing the stamp in order to make a decent wreath.  

Step 2.  I used two of the tulip stamps for this wreath however I only added only one tulip stamp to an acrylic stamping block at a time.  I thought this was the easiest way to avoid overlapping stamps.  

Stamping TIP -  You'll get better, crisper, clear stamped images if  you avoid using textured cardstock.  If the cardstock is flat on the backside, that is OK to use. 

Step 3.  I used cheap watercolors to add a splash of imperfect color to the tulips and leaves.  

Step 4.  Finishing Touches - I finished the card by stamping green accent dots (from the  stamp set) around the wreath and drawing stitch lines with a fine point black marker.  

I stamped "Get Well Soon" Sentiment last -  after I had a feel for where the bow was going to be added.  I didn't want to bow to cover the sentiment so placing the sentiment  off center was perfect.

Beautiful Summer Card for July

This month, the Unicorn kit features LemonCraft papers.  wow - they are beautiful and delicate and so gorgeously floral.  ahhhhh what a delight.  A few posts back I told everyone that you had to cut into the Lemoncraft papers to totally enjoy them.   Well not true.   I forgot they had some sweet little journal cards that actually don't need to be fussy cut at all. 

I took a journal card and used that as my inspiration.  TYhese were included in the Flying Unicorns kit for July. 

How did I do this?  

1.  I wanted to make a custom background for my card so I grabbed a pre-folded card and inked the edges.  

2. Pulled out my watercolor paints and dabbed different watercolors to the paper while blotting dry so my card didn't warp too much.   I also made sure I covered the places on the card that would show after my journal card was added.  

3.  I added some cardboard to the back of the journal card to add dimension.  Glued it to my greeting card. 

4.  Added embellishments - flowers, butterflies, punched pine branches. 

5.  Tucked a piece of ribbon seam binding as a bow. 

6.  Topped with a wood sentiment.  You can also stamp, or even write your own sentiment. 

7. Brighten someone's day and pop it in the mail.
