Celebrating Our Furry Friends

We sure love our pets. They add such dimension to our lives and fill our homes with joy and affection.  If you are like me, I can have a full-blown conversation with my cat.  ( I see some of you nodding in agreement.)

The loss of a beloved pet is devastating and heartbreaking.  Let's reach out and give someone a virtual hug using our gift of art.    We are card makers and crafters, paper artists and mixed media aficionados.  Let's cheer someone's hurting heart.

This card is my version of the "Rainbow Bridge".  It's a simple card with simple chipboard techniques.  The cat from the Cat Set has been embossed with Stampendous - Frantage - Embossing Enamels - Aged Gold.

The Window was painted with light cream acrylic paint before embossing with Lindy's Stamp Gang - Embossing Powder - Angel Wings Gold.

When using light colored embossing powders, I achieve better embossing results when I paint the chipboard first.  After the paper was dry, I added a quick rainbow painted with watercolors.  

This is the second cat card featuring the Creative Embellishments - Paw Prints heart.  I painted the heart with red acrylic paint then gently inked the edges of the heart after the paint dried.  

It's super easy to personalize the chipboard with your own sentiment or even the Kitty's name.  I would have added the Kitty's name but I wasn't sure of the spelling so I kept the sentiment simple. 

The papers used in this card are from Authentique (Companion collection) and Photo Play "Roxie & Friends" collection.

Let's Play Paper Dolls - with Julie Nutting Paper Collections

While tags seem to be to popular way to use Julie Nutting doll stamps, I had fun making a card with the beautiful Camille stamp.  I dressed her using the 6x6 paper pad from "Paper Dolls" collection by Julie Nutting and Photo Play.  

The colors in the collection are fresh and happy.  And with the end of summer upon us, I still needed to hang on the feel of a sunny warm picnic day at the park. Well - that's what I'd love to wear to a picnic at the park on a sunny warm day at least.   

  I embellished my card with 

chipboard images from the Paper Dolls collection as well.  Paper Dolls Collection adhesive chipboard comes in a 6x13 sheet - chock full of adorable images.  

The background of my card is quite simple - just a stencil with molding paste and a die cut on top of the kraft card base.  I want the doll to be my real focal point.    

I also love to make my doll clothes dimensional, as if the sweet warm summer breeze is tossing her skirt about.   You can see more of the dimensional aspect if you scroll down.

Celebrate July 4th with Julie Nutting and PhotoPlay Paper

I created a few cards using Photo Play's Nautical Bliss paper collection by Julie Nutting.  I created three different cards just to show how easy it is to change a few things on the cards and get a cute new look.  ( grab your Julie Nutting and Photo Play products on sale at the Flying Unicorns)

Card one started off as a flag theme card, which I really love.  My family gathers on July 4th for a cookout and to celebrate a few birthday's so this is perfect.   I gave it a vintage appeal using distress ink.

This card used the Nautical Bliss papers from Julie Nuttings collections by Photo Play, and the tiny alphas are stickers from the as well.  It's the sticker sheet called "Alpha Stickers.

Card two is the same basic card, yet I added a sweet die cut doll from the Paper Dolls Ephemera set.  These are fun because you can mix and match the clothing and dolls - and they are still small enough to fit on a card.  They are not quite as large as the doll stamps.

Home Decor Star Box with Julie Nutting and Photo Play

Combining Julie Nutting's Paper Collections 

Time to play paper dolls and make something fun, fabulous and functional. I created this star shaped box by combining two beautiful collections by Julie Nutting and Photo Play Paper; "Nautical Bliss" collection and the "Paper Dolls" collection . 

While the collections are not related, they are nice compliments for each other and can indeed be combined.  My top sheet is Nautical Bliss Collection -12x12 Nautical Stripe sheet while the sides were crafted from  the Paper Dolls collection pack - specifically the individual papers called  Let's Play Paper Dolls Cards and Cuteness.
