Using Nesting Boxes to Create a Table piece

Shabby Chic Centerpiece

Need a clever party centerpiece?

Need a clever party centerpiece or fun party idea?
Surprise your guests by turning nesting boxes into a festive cake perfect for any celebration. I have a short video showing just how easy this is. Best of all, you can hide goodies and gifts inside the boxes for an added surprise.
This adorable cake has three different sized boxes: the bottom box is 6"x3", middle box is 6"x2.5" and the darling top box is 4"x2". You can leave the boxes loose so they can be unstacked and moved about, OR you can adhere them together to keep as a complete set.
There are so many ways to customize this cake for birthdays, anniversaries, teacher appreciation gifts, showers, office gifts, and much more. ( You can see the post at Blitsy here

Here's a fun party idea

Looking for a fun activity for a child's birthday party? How about having a cake themed party!
Each child can make their own birthday/ celebration cake. Precut a variety of bright papers that fit each box layer and let the kids select their own papers.
Toss a bunch of miscellaneous embellishments on a table - flowers, lace, trim, stickers, punched decorations, string, buttons, alphabet letters. The kids can then choose their own decorations.
As a parting favor, the kids can fill their boxes with cookies, candy, or other little party favors. Now that sounds like a FUN event.

You can see the video here

FabScraps Floral Delight

FabScraps Floral Delight
This is FabScraps Floral Delight collection.  It is cheerful and bold.  It reminds me of a formal celebration, so I created a fancy cake using  a hat box journal card from the collection.

Attached are detailed instructions as to how I created this card with all it's elegant layers and details.

Instructions:
1.    I used a prefolded 5in x 7in white card as my background.  Cut a strip from FabScraps Floral Delight Collection- Delft  paper  - C74004 to fit card lengthwise 2x7in strip.
2.  Punch two strips of white cardstock to be used as edging on strip from step 1 above.   Ink edges of the punch cardstock blue and glue to card.
3.  Pick hat box die cut from the FabScraps Floral Delight Journal Die Cuts -M74001A.  Add cardboard or dimensional foam tape to the back of the diecut and glue to card.
4.  Glue a piece of scalloped lace under the bottom of the hat box to turn into a "cake".
5.  Punch some strips of cream colored cardstock and outline the edged of the hat boxes to make them appear as layers of a cake.  Accent with string pearls.
6.  Decorate left side of "cake' with a bow, floral berries, and leaves or punched pine sprigs.
7.  Tuck wooden chevrons into the cluster and top with rolled flowers or small flowers.

FabScraps Beach Affair - Peaceful Beach Art

FabScraps New Release - Beach Affair

Beach Affair is one of the new releases for FabScraps. Anything featuring the sea is a big hit with me.  This is no exception.  The images in this collection will make any sea loving person happy.

The journal cards included as well as the chipboard pieces were the focal point of my projects since they are absolutely fabulous in person.

For this project, I used the following from the collection:
FabScraps Beach Affair Collection - Lighthouse paper C72005
FabScraps Beach Affair Collection  -Journal Die Cut pack MC72001A
FabScraps Beach Affair Collection  -Seahorses Lobster Crab Chipboard  DC72010
FabScraps Beach Affair Collection  -Under the Sea 2 paper - C72004

You can find a full set of instructions down at the end of this post.

I added a lot of molding paste and texture creams - I added them to the paper background as well as covered my chipboard sea horses.

I also had some cool mesh ribbon that I wound about the journal cards and made very dimensional.

Thanks for stopping by.

Instructions:
1.        Your page will have several layers.  The bottom layer will be  FabScraps Beach Affair Collection  -Under the Sea 2 paper - C72004.
2.   Next layer will be a piece of cardstock with 1/4in trimmed off  all edges.  Distress the edges with a distressing tool or scissors.
3.   3rd layer is a piece of yellow butterscotch colored cardstock and trim even smaller, distressing the edges as well.
4.  Top layer is FabScraps Beach Affair Collection - Lighthouse paper C72005  - trim to fit and distress edges.
5.  Roll the corners inward on each layer and glue in place.  Do this to top left and bottom right corners.
6.   Lightly ink a diagonal strip on FabScraps Beach Affair Collection - Lighthouse paper C72005 with blue ink and then add modeling paste and crackle paste.  This will add texture. Let dry.
7.  Choose three journal cards from FabScraps Beach Affair Collection  -Journal Die Cut pack MC72001A and mat them onto the blue and yellow cardstock.  Distress edges of the cardstock.
8.  Rip a piece of cardboard approx 10inches long and make sure some of the corrugation is showing,  Add some modeling paste and crackle paste to the corrugation.
9.  Glue the journal cards to the cardboard.
10.Weave a piece of mesh between the journal cards on a diagonal and glue to page.
11. Paint  small seahorses from FabScraps Beach Affair Collection  -Seahorses Lobster Crab Chipboard  DC72010 with white paint or gesso.  Top with crackle and molding paste.  Add crystal beads while the paste is wet so the beads stick.
12.  Lightly ink the edges of the seahorses with brown ink and a little blue ink. Glue to page.
11.  Embellish page with fish net, crystals, rolled flowers, mica, beads or your choice.

FabScraps Royal Baby Cards

FabScraps Royal Baby Collection

FabScraps continues to surprise me with each new collection release - each one so completely different from the last.   This is a soft and adorable release and perfect for all those baby projects you need to start.

Well at least I need to start!  I have a few baby events coming in the coming months and I'd love to give the new parents something created from my heart.  What could be better?

I am also on a simple "do-able" card kick lately.  Something that others can actually replicate if they wanted to.   Simple instructions  for each card are at the bottom of this post .

Card 1 Baby Blocks
Here are some cards I made.
The first card uses  a few items from the Royal Baby collection:
C70002 Precious Bunny paper
C70007 Pastel Alphabet
MC70001A - Postcard

The postcard from MC70001A journal die pack has a nice vintage feel so that is the look I used for my card.
Card 1
Products used from the Royal Baby collection:
C70002 Precious Bunny paper
DC70007 Little One Chipboard words

I have an embossing folder that sasy congratulations so I thought I'd put it to good use.  I embossed ivory cardstock and then ran an inkpad over the top.

FabScraps Royal Baby

FabScraps - Royal Baby Collection

FabScraps has a soft and gorgeous collection called Royal Baby.  Leave it to FabScraps to make this perfect for any baby, with feminine pinks, baby blues and some fun all purpose baby prints and colors.

I made a layout for a Christening.   The parents asked me to make something soft  and delicate for their daughter's room since I made layouts for their other children.  I used a vintage style photo here since I do not yet have the actual real photo yet.

The diecut frame I selected works nicely with the graphics on the paper.   I accented the page with Prima flowers and some floral berries and ribbon.

I have included step by step instructions to help you understand my process.   This is a super easy page - yet looks like you spent a long time.

Please check out the FabScraps Blog here and LIKE them on Facebook
Thanks so kindly for stopping.

Flying Unicorns and FabScraps - Shabby Vintage Chic - Featuring the Industrial Chic Collection

Flying Unicorns Oct Kit Features FabScraps

I love the Industrial Chic collection from FabScraps. They created a wonderful blend of elegance paired with edgy charm.    Because there are so many beautiful papers in this collection, I opted to layer and show a few of them.

FabScraps also has beautiful matching chipboard like the one below.   I simply embossed this with white enamel and added some pink ink to the top.

The flowers are Prima - of course BUT I have tucked in a few of the paper die cuts from FabScraps as well.  FabScraps does a unique and innovative thing with each collection - they have stamped out matching die cuts that can be used to layer over their chipboard or to be used as stand alone pieces.
I used the flower fie cuts and inked the edges to tuck here and there under the clustering.  Helping to make the clustering a bit fuller.

In this photo, you can see the dimension I have added to the strips.  That's done by adding some cardboard to the backsides.  I like card board when I can use it.  The cardboard provides solid support to the entire dimensional piece versus using a strip of dimension foam tape.   I  will not get the sagging and dips that happen when I use foam tape  and do not cover 100% of the surface area.
