Prima's Wire Thread

Prima has a new product that is both fascinating and fun - wire thread.  The threads come in a rainbow of bold colors and a collection of earthy colors.  I chose to use bright and bold colors and make some flirty wine glasses for a toast to fun times and sunny days.  My glasses are plastic so they can go to the beach or to the park for a special event.

This is a quick easy project that can be done in a few moments.  Get a call from a friend with some good news - you can be ready to celebrate in a moments notice and make your friend feel special.

I started my project by wrapping the wire around my plastic wine glasses.  I threaded a colorful bead with the thread and then bent the thread into a flower and heart.  

Super easy, right?

FabScraps - Beachcomber - wall hanging

This is a wall hanging from FabScraps wonderful peaceful collection called Beachcomber. The collection can warm even the coldest days of winter.  And trust that I sure do know cold living in New York.  Recently we were having subzero cold with wind chill factors to freeze a hot cup of coffee into a coffee-pop in mere seconds.

The wall plaque was purchased off the Christmas clearance rack at a store.  I get chills when I see a 90% off clearance bin that I simply must dig through.  I know I can paint and alter just about anything that a clearance bin has to offer.  Happy digging.

I really must remember to show you the plaques "before"  I paint and alter. This one was exceptionally hideous - thus the banishment to the 90% clearance bin.   I used to be ashamed to buy it and made up some lame excuse for the cashier.  But I realized the cashier doesn't care and I must proudly take ownership. So I hold my head up high and happily dance off with my $1.99 special to store in my basement till it is called into action.

I pulled out my Beachcomer collection, and accompanying chippies and was transported to a nice perfect beachy day, sunshine and all. The shells on this were actually from our last trip to the ocean which also warmed my heart.

The image below shows a sample of the paper line as well as some of the die cuts.  FabScraps has done something totally innovative in creating die cut paper pieces that match to cover accompanying chipboard pieces.

OK - so what do I mean by the innovative die cut paper pieces matching chipboard?   The beach houses below are all chipboard pieces.   FabScraps printed die cuts that one can glue onto the chipboard for graphics if they prefer.

I added my own sea serf and crashing waves with paper rips and cardboard that has been heat embossed.
I added some touches of fishing net that I painted with gesso to soften a bit and blend.

My seaside sign below was framed with jute and painted with gesso.  Once again to give it a blended look. I had added simple instructions for this project below.

For This Project You Will Need

• FabScraps  - Collection  - Big Belly Sea Horse 1 C64001
• FabScraps –Collection – Chipboard Houses  DC64009
• Gesso or white acrylic paint
• Web weave Lace
• Shells
• Ribbon
• Twine
• Flowers:  Prima Velvet Rainbow Pastel 556297
• Flowers: Prima Flowers AuNatural B 562656
• Flowers: Prima Say it in Crystal 570316
• floral berries
• Fishing net
• Crystal flourishes
• Stampendous Chunky White Embossing powder/embossing ink/heat gun
• Cardboard
• Clearsnap  Mixd Media Inx - Peridot 
• Dry wall tape

Instructions

1.     Background Preparation:

2.     Cut a piece of FabScraps  Beachcomber Collection  Big Belly Sea Horse 1 C64001 to fit a wall plaque.  Distress edges then glue to plaque.

3.     Cover FabScraps Beachcomber chipboard  - Houses DC64009 with the matching die cut from MC64001A.

4.     Glue to plaque.

5.     Ink the edges of the background paper with teal ink. 

6.     Cut two small pieces of fishing net.  Glue on to the bottom left corner and one to the top left corner. Paint lightly with gesso for a worn seaside look.

7.     Sea surf Preparation:

8.     Rip a piece of cardboard so that the corrugation shows.  Paint it white and emboss with white embossing powder. And set with heat gun.

9.     Glue beneath the chipboard buildings.

10.   Rip a few narrow pieces of FabScraps Beachcomber Collection – Lighthouse 2 and Big Belly Sea Horse paper and glue over the cardboard.  This should resemble crashing surf.

11.   I added some dry wall tape to the layout here and there for more texture.  I inked it with teal ink as well.

12.   Finishing Embellishing Touches:

13.   Add shells and flowers,  netting and floral berries as desired.

14.   Create the sign by cutting the seaside sign from die cuts MC64001A.  Glue twine to the edge.  Lightly paint the twine with gesso.

15.   Glue to the top over the fish net.

16.   Embellish with starfish from FabScraps Beachcomber Collection – Big Belly Sea Horse paper.

17.   Add floral berries. 

18.   Adorn the top of the plaque with netting and ribbons for hanging.

FabScraps Retro Twist Collection Butterfly Tin

FabScraps introduces the Retro Twist Collection

This collection is bold, colorful, dripping with movement and graphics. Absolutely fun to use in both masculine and feminine ways.  Below is a sample of the paper collection.  This collection also has a full array of accompanying chipboard pieces.  

Using the butterfly graphics as the focal point, I created a little decorated treat tin out of an old peanut canister.  I ate the peanuts, but you can leave them in the tin and give that as a little gift as well. 

I fussy cut the butterflies from FabScraps paper called Fantasy Flight C65005.  I glued some cardboard to the undersides of my butterflies to keep them from bending.  Pop dots or dimensional dots will allow them to bend in places.    You can see the cardboard peeking here and there in my photos but in real life, it is just fine and you do not notice the cardboard.

I had a small metal hinge that I glued to the underside of the butterfly below.  This will keep it's wings still and in place, permanently bent as in flight.

For This Project You Will Need

•        FabScraps – Retro Twist Collection –Fantasy Butterfly paper   C66006
•        Small  tin ( I used a peanut tin)
•        gesso  
•        Edge punch
•        floral berries
•        cardboard
•        Gold trim
•        Red, burgundy  assorted Fibers
•        Olive green ribbon
•        Red/Balck  Ribbon
•        Web weave trim
•        Brown ink pad
•        Small metal hinge - FabScraps Scalloped Metal Hinge  

Instructions

1.     Tin Preparation - Bottom:

2.     I used a small can that had peanuts as my tin.   Paint the bottom of the tin with gesso to make the paper hold better.

3.     Cut the paper FabScraps Retro Twist  C65005 to size and glue around the tin.

4.     Punch two strips of paper FabScraps Retro Twist –Fantasy Butterfly paper C65006.   Ink the edges for definition.  Glue the strips to the top and bottom of the tin. 

5.     Cut gold trim to size and glue trim to the top and bottom of the tin, making sure not leave the punched border showing.

6.     Tie burgundy fibers around the top of the tin and glue the ends in place, draped down the side of the tin.

7.     Tin Preparation - Top:

8.     Paint does not really adhere well to plastic top so simply cut  a paper circle  from FabScraps Retro Twist –Fantasy Butterfly paper C65006 to size and glue to the top of the lid. 

9.     Glue gold trim to the top to finish off the lid.

10.   Embellishing the Top:

11.   Tie a  large bow of green trim and glue to the top.  Tie a smaller burgundy bow and glue to the green bow. 

12.   Fussy cut a large  and small butterfly from FabScraps Retro Twist Collection –Fantasy Flight paper C65005  paper.  Glue cardboard to the back of the butterflies to strengthen them.

13.   Bend butterflies wings  and glue butterflies to the top. 

14.   Tuck floral berries into the top, 

15.   Tuck green web weave trim to the top. 

16.   Finishing Touches to the bottom:

17.   Cut a large butterfly  from  Fantasy Flight C65005 and back it with cardboard.

18.   Glue a small metal hinge behind the butterfly and bend the hinge.  This will keep the butterly’s wings nicely bent.  

19.   Cut some green web weave and glue to the side of tin. 

20.   Add floral berries.

21.   Enjoy!

FabScraps introduces it's newest collection - freshly released at CHA 2014.  This is Beachcomber. So very peaceful and refreshing. I am having fun using this collection and pulling out my beachside images, especially when all the water around me is frozen and we are currently in "ice fishing" and "ice skating" season. 

FabScraps also has so rockin great chipboard pieces to accompany this collection. 

I used the pier chipboard piece and positioned my niece on the FabScraps pier.  Then I built the foreground with  deco-sand and shells and web weave trim.   Love this web weave trim.

For This Project You Will Need

Sand Mixed with glue - or sand texture paste (Viva Stone Art - Sand Gold)

Instructions

1.     Background Preparation:

2.     Cut 5 inches wide  strip of FabScraps  Beachcomber Collection Light House 2 C64008 and 5 inches of Big Belly Sea Horse 1 C64001 and glue to the center of white sheet of cardstock.  Rip the card stock on both ends so that only a little cardstock is showing.

3.     Mount onto FabScraps Beachcomber –Splashes 2 C64004

4.     Lightly paint a whitewash ( paint mixed with water to thin it out)  of white gesso with a foam brush over the FabScraps papers to blend in and look misty.

5.     Glue photo to page

6.     Glue FabScraps chipboard Pier DC64012 to the page. Lightly dust the chipboard with the foam brush to add a little gesso.

7.     Embellishing Touches:

8.     Add sand mixed with glue or some sand texture paste to the page for a sandy beach. 

9.     Add some blue web weave trim to the page for water

10.   Add some green web weave to the page for foliage.

11.   Add some shells to the page
