Vintage Rose Garden - Inkido

Happy Monday.  If Monday is not your favorite day of the week, then I offer you a wonderful bouquet of flowers Inkido style just to cheer you. 

Today I want to show you the wonderful stamp I received in addition to the gorgeous papers and embellishments.  

This is Vintage Rose Garden.   I received the most wonderful Inkido stamps in the mail and had to make them the focus of this project.  Gosh I love stamps and the Inkido stamps are magnificent. 

My wonderful image is from Magic Moonlight Free Images.

Step 1.  To create my vintage feel and look, I need to ink the edges of my background paper. I used Tim Holtz Antique Linen on the edges.  

Step 2.  I want to tone down the background paper a little so that my photo image and stamped images are more noticeable.  I use a sponge brush and paint little gesso lightly over my page.  I actually do this often when my background paper is "busier" than I prefer or than I need.  

Step 3.  If my gesso is  heavy or I applied too much, I will thin out by spraying some water right onto the page.  Then use my fingertips in a circular fashion to blend in and thin the gesso.   This technique also takes away any harsh lines created by the gesso - makes then soft and blended. 

Step 4.  Rip a piece of  Beautiful Memories Butterfly Border paper as a photo matte. 

Step 5.  Now to have fun with the Inkido stamps.  I stamped the Summar Collage K stamp onto cardstock and then colored with Distress markers - that's what I have available.  

Step 6.   Start building your layers and gluing them down.

Step 7.  Ink the edges of the paper flowers to give them some definition and make them look a little more aged.

Step 8.  Cut out some butterflies from the Beautiful Memories Butterfly Border paper.  As you are cutting, make sure to cut some butterfly antennas.  I will color my antennas in with a black marker.   

Step 9.  Complete with your favorite Inkido laces, trims, flowers , leaves, and decorative pins.  You can see the adorable little leaf pins in the following two photos that help complete my Inkido flower cluster.

I want to feature the Ska Vi Ta En Fika?  collection because it's Friday and we can all use a Fika break.  So STOP what you are doing....I am calling an official FIKA time.  Let's enjoy the gorgeous collection Maja Design has in honor of Fika.

Here's some translation for my non-Swedish friends:

fika - a break where one get something to drink (often coffee or tea) and/or eat (often some kind of bread)

Ska vi ta en fika?  merans literally "Shall we take a fika?", which basically means "Do you want to have coffee with me?

If the ONLY Swedish I know involves coffee and food, then I am a happy scrapper.   

On this page, I use  Maja Design Ska vi ta enFika?   Bjornbarskakor ( Background paper),  Smulpaj m Applen ( leaves), Soders Hojder ( paper strips).

On this page, I used a mask and some moulding paste rather thickly.  After the paste dried, I rubbed some inks over the top - making sure I only got the masked areas.  

I also stamped here and there....One of the ink colors I used  is called "Coffee" - how appropriate. 

Here you can see some  details on the side of my layout.   Just some tiny little details that bring out the most gorgeous rich  purples in this paper.

Walk on the Beach
This is a page I created for  Maja Design featuring the  Vintage Summer Basics collection.

This was a design I have used before by Marie -Nicolas Alliot.  It gave me quite the challenge last time so I decided to take it on once more using the wonderful Vintage Summer Basics collection by Maja Design.

The photo is of me on the beach in Naples Florida last summer ( July 2012).  We love to go to the beach each evening at watch the sunset.  It never gets boring - total relaxation.  That's also the feeling I get when I look at these papers.  They convey a feeling of warm relaxation and happiness.

More specifically:

I created an Easter Bunny.  He's actually pretty big at 18 inches tall and 12 inches from bunny nose to what is typically a "cotton tail". Lot's of space to decorate.

I  want to show you that ZVA bling is not just for layouts. 

Here is how bunny started after I added some punched strips from Authentique Hope Collection - Faith  (product code HOP004).

Here are my Bunny instructions:
Step 1.  Punch two strips using your favorite punch.  This one happens to be the Martha Stewart Doily Lace trim punch and I use it often for projects like this where I need a dimensional paper ring.

Step 2.  I made my own flowers by punching petals from the Authentique paper.

Step 3.  Lightly ink the edges of the petals and then curl the edges.  I used a wooden skewer - but a thin paintbrush will work nicely too.  

Step 4. Glue in layers.

Step 5.  Lightly ink the inside  of the flower for definition. 

Step 6.  Making the center of the flower... I punched three pieces from Authentique Hope Collection - Await HOP015 using the McGill Star punch. Then I simply twist around my wooden  skewer. 

Step 7.  Once all three star punch forms are twisted, glue on the flower in layers.  

Step 8.  Use the Skewer to help set the flower center without squishing.  

Step 9.  Butterfly time.  I wanted to make some dimensional butterflies sticking out of my bunny.  Once again, I reach for my wooden skewers and cut off about 3 inches from the skewer.  My butterflies are from Authentique Hope Collection - Await HOP015.

Step 10.  I glue the butterfly punches to the skewer top and bottom.   Then I can just stick them in the bunny.  ( I finished off my butterfly with a beaded body before sticking into the bunny). 

Step 11.  Finish project with florals berries, trim and your choice of embellishments. 

In the photo below, you can see that I have used the  ZVA Creative Dots  in Crystal Iridescent  for the inside of my flowers and accented with ZVA Creative Leaves.  I painted the edges of the leaves with some cream colored paint to blend in a bit more with my flowers. 

In the photo above,  you can see how I used the Authentique Hope Collection - Statements gift tags.  I also used the ZVA Creative Soft Blue Pearls flourish here. 

I love to use the flourishes on "off the page projects" by simply cutting around the plastic that they come on -straight from the packaging.  You cannot see the plastic on the project and it keep the wonderful shape of the flourish perfect.  

Soooooooo - forget that ZVA Creative Crystals and pearls are meant for flat projects!  They are NOT.
