Some Scraps Of Darkness Layouts (Lexie - Cutie Pie and First Dance)

I had a few moments to use up the remainder of my wonderful Scraps Of Darkness, Feb. Victoriana Kit with one romantic layout and one, well different layout.

First Dance

This is a photo of my Step Daughter and her new husband at their wedding in June 2009. I thought I'd put my scissors to the pretty Prima Printery paper and do some fussy cutting.

Lexie - Cutie Pie

Not Dark, not romantic, not edgy, not shabby chic or  rustic.  What on earth is going on with me? 

Well, Scraps of Darkness/Scraps Of Elegance is having a Cute challenge for Feb/Mar.  The month of love and Romance can be sweet and cute. 

I took these puppy photos of Lexie, my Aunt's Yorkshire Terrier for my Aunt in the late fall.

I had to create this on the "down low", or "DL" as people say - all quiet like in my scrappy room so that Escape Kitty did not find out I was entering a CUTE LO that did not feature HER.

Can you imagine the "heck" I'll catch from Kitty if she gets wind of this?  Please promise me - everyone - pinky swear if we must!  No word shall get back to Kitty about this.

But dang if Lexie aint a Cutie-patootie!  Lexie would be considered Kitty's cousin I guess. 

Sorry Kitty, but YOU don't hold the title on Cute.  I look around SB.com and see a ton of cute out there.

The Wheelbarrow CSI #8 - Color Stories, Inspiration

This was created for the CSI - Color, Stories, Inspiration Case File #8.  The color palette, evidence and testimony are listed below.  

The background paper is the Bo Bunny Snowfall Collection.
I used the  Case File Scene as inspiration for my design.

CSI- Color Stories, Inspiration -Case File #8

EVIDENCE (CHOOSE AT LEAST 2)

• Use stars - embellishments, paper with stars, etc.
• Use glass or transparent elements or glass-like elements.
• Use liquid mediums (e.g., paints, mists, Glossy Accents, inks, etc.).
• Add something that sparkles or shines (or use glitter or Stickles).
• Use a solid color in the background.
• Use the composition of the image to inspire the design of your page.
• Cut a slit in your embellishment to let it sit on the edge of an element.

TESTIMONY (CHOOSE AT LEAST 1--You need to have some sort of journaling for your page; not just a title, please)

• The Star of the Show: Who's the star of the pictured event and why?
• Stars: List the cast and identify their roles in the event.
• Tell three quirky factoids about your subject (as inspired by the 3 drinks).
• Write your journaling in the form of a recipe.
• Inspiration words: stellar, indulge, effervescent -- these are meant as jumping off points for your journaling--not just titles (though you certainly can use these as your title; just please also have a story of some sort for your page).

My Evidence:

I used the scene as my inspiration for my layout design.  I also used some crystals that dangle off the snowflakes and the flowers.

My Testimony:

I chose 3 quirky facts about this scene.

1.  This is not my yard.  It belongs to my neighbors.  Anyone who knows me knows I take most of my outdoor photos in my neighbors yard.  It's so much prettier.   When I took this  photo at 7 in the morning, the neighbor caught me out there and I think I startled him.  Not sure if he spilled his coffee all over with surprise - but I hope not.  ( They have told me to use the yard when I want, but still....ya know it is a little odd).

2.  My kitty, Escape Kitty, also enjoys this yard more than our yard.  This is the first place she heads for when she dashes out of the house to escape.  She hides under the wheelbarrow.  FIND a new hiding place Kitty!  I know you're there!

3.  This wheelbarrow has not been used or moved in over a year.  Not sure how all the amazing yard work is getting done without touching the wheelbarrow, BUT, the yard looks great in the summer with or without so keep up the good work Mr. Neighbor Man.  Kitty and I appreciate the hard work.

Total Calm - Scraps Of Darkness

Total Calm - Scraps Of Darkness

This is a photo I took of my boys by Lake Ontario in August 2011.  My oldest had just moved back home after being gone for 5 months.  He was thrilled to be home and I was happy to have him back in the nest. 

This was created using the Scraps Of Darkness Victoriana Kit and mixing it with the December kit that featured the Bo Bunny Enchanted line of paper.   

Below I used the Dusty Attic Cogs #1 DA0001.   I inked them with Tim Holtz Stormy Sky distressing ink then covered with Crackle Accents.  I added some shells from the beach as well.

Here is a better close up of the really great colors the Stormy Sky creates on the Dusty Attic. 

I used some white cheese cloth and some dyed black. 

Here is the photo of my boys.  OK - yeah I know they don't look thrilled to be here, but I chalk that up to teen angst.  Inside they just bubble with excitement.

Hanging Out With Dad - Scraps Of Elegance

This is not particularly elegant, but my intention is to show you that you can adapt the kit to fit your needs. Don't get hung up on the name of the kit.  If you love doing stronger masculine layouts, or have a whole lot of men and boys in your life that you scrap, this kit is easily adaptable!  No worries there.

This is a photo taken from Terra Free Images called Dad, Me, Johnny and Johnny's Friend.   

The flower was made using Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die and some paper bags, the I misted and inked them.  I rubbed a thin layer of gold leaf wax rub over the petals to give them some glitz.



Here is my beloved Dusty Attic Chicken Wire 12x12 DA0457 pictured, inked with Tim Holtz Distress ink in Vintage Photo.

The  thin ribbon can in the kit and tied some vintage book pages together.  I just misted it the color I needed and rubbed the gold leaf wax rub on it to give it a more robust vintage appearance.

The metal star and button were clearance finds at Joann's in the fall.
