Autumn Acorn DIY Home Decor with Instructions

Welcome to November.  Crazy but we are knee deep into Autumn already.  I am celebrating with some new DIY home decor created using Creative Embellishments Wood Home Decor- Acorn.  The Acorn is part of the CE's new line of wood decor pieces.

The inspiration for the acorn was taken from Creative Embellishments monthly challenge for November.

I used a combination of chipboard pieces to decorate the project.  Along with the Creative Embellishments Wood Home Decor- Acorn, I used the Creative Embellishments Chipboard- Rake Set and Creative Embellishments Chipboard - Pumpkin Corners.

Basic Instructions:
The wood acorn piece comes with a clean sanded natural wood finish ready to alter as desired.  I painted with a warm light brown and wanted to add patterned paper to the body of the acorn.

Best way to size up the patterned paper is to flip the design around and use as a template  to trace onto the paper.

Once the paper is trimmed to fit, I glued to the piece.  From there, the wood can be inked, painted, stained as desired.  I did use a number of Distress inks on this project:

After the piece has been papered and inked to satisfaction, I gave it a coat of Clear Crackle Glaze from Deco Art.  I love this glaze.  It has great crackle - ability.  Yes that's gotta be a word in the paper crafting world.

Unlike crackle paste, the glaze is self leveling, spreading out evenly on your project.

The wonderful die cut leaves on this decor piece are from Spellbinders Woodland Garden Leaves  Dies from Susan's Autumn Flora Collection by Susan Tierney-Cockburn.  I loved using them on this acorn because they were the perfect size.

Once adhered to the wood, they have a coating of Ranger Ink - Inkssentials - Crackle Accents - Crackle Medium for added texture.
