Christmas Canvas - LemonCraft

I am the featured artist at Lemoncraft this month and this layout is part 2 of the blog post.  You can find the blog post here

This is a canvas I created using the gorgeous "Must Have" collection by LemonCraft - Christmas Greetings.    I have a few photos to show you how I made the background of my canvas.

But first a moment about LemonCraft.  They are from Poland and specialize in delicate, exquisite papers, embellishments, trims, buttons, and now flowers too! This piece utilizes pieces from the entire collection tucked here and there.

This is a canvas I created using the gorgeous "Must Have" collection by LemonCraft - Christmas Greetings.    I have a few photos to show you how I made the background of my canvas.

To start, I use matte gel to attach the paper to the canvas.  I feel it is much better than glue because all the edges get stuck down, and there is no rippling and bumping of the paper. I do apply a generous amount of gel medium and I like to use a foam brush or a an old credit card when applying the gel.   Fingers work nicely too if you do not mind getting messy.    Messy has never been a problem for me.

Step  2.
Next , after the paper is nice and smooth, I gave the edges a white wash with some watered down gesso or white acrylic paint.  I watered the gesso down to give it a wispy soft look on the edges.

I next added a layer of Snowflake paste to blend the edges  of the paper and canvas board even better.  The snowflake paste adds a mice wintery look and feel.  It has a little glitter in it for some winter chill and glitz.

Step 3.
Next step is to create a wreath look.  I cut a circle out.  Punched the edges of my circle with an edge punch.  I glued the circle onto a piece of cardboard for added dimension.
next I added some stenciling with heave gesso.  You can also use molding paste but I like how the heavy gesso looks better than modeling paste.   It seems to dry much whiter and cleaner than molding paste.   I like my whites to stay white.  I hate when something that should be white dries with a yellow tint as some molding pastes seem to do.
Step 4.
I added the stenciled wreath to the canvas.  I also added a beautiful ornament die cut from the Christmas Greetings Collection to the wreath.
