Flying Unicorns Nov Blog Hop

If you have come here from Maggi Harding's blog, Welcome.   If you would like to start back tat the beginning, please go here to the Flying Unicorns blog

Every year in the month of November, Flying Unicorn sponsors "Flying Unicorn Gives Back." This year, we've chosen a nationally recognized charity, Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.

For each project that is uploaded to our forum gallery, Flying Unicorn donates $1.00 to a maximum of $1,000 and. we've always reached our goal. With your help this year we will again.! Flying Unicorn also donates 5% of all sales during the month of November to the charity. Finally, do not forget to mark your calendars for our Silent Auction November 8th - November 16th .

We have set up the Flying Unicorn page on the Best Friends site where monetary donations can be made as well to help us reach this years goal of $3000.00 in charitable donations.

Best Friends' mission of No More Homeless Pets tries to place dogs and cats who are considered "unadoptable" into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. Since its inception, the number of dogs and cats being destroyed in shelters has fallen to approximately 5 million a year. There has been much progress, but there is still much more to do. Best Friends made national headlines with
their intensive efforts in rescuing so many animals in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina..

In honor of Best Friends, and the November Kit of the Month -Hear'ts Twilight - I would like to share with you the extra special project I made using the Kit of the month :

Sweet Chena
My project is of sweet Chena Harding.    You probably have come from Maggi Harding's blog, where she has also done a memorial page of her darling precious pup.  I felt it appropriate also.

Chena was such a special dog, and close to my heart as well.  You see, Maggi is not just an internet scrappy friend, Maggi is also my personal "real - life" friend and I have been to her house several times.   In fact, I am lovingly called "Auntie Jen" to her pups.

These are a few photos I snapped of Maggi and Chena,  Sept 2012.  The photos show their special relationship, and clearly capture Chena's darling personality.  Oh what a little character she was.

I was with Chena on her last day.  I am forever grateful and appreciative that I was able to snap some photos of her, see her, have her smile at me, love me up and see her excitement as I stepped in the door.

This kit is so perfect for a page about Chena.

I used some bubble wrap painted with gesso, a little fun accent that Shona often does - thanks Shona for the tip and trend.

The wooden butterflies were painted with gesso and then topped with seed beads.

Oh my gosh , if this little darling isn't smile!  Look at her.  ( Yes Maggi too!  hehe)

Heart's Twilight is now available with an amazing and fun off the page creation- take a look:

Do not forget to join Alda and Shona this month with their process of making the below layouts. Alda will show you step by step on our You Tube Channel, while Shona has done a complete Build a Page for you all!

WAIT! There is a little more before you hop on over to Jackie Clark -Jax's blog

Prima Halloween with the Anna Marie Collection

You can see this project at the Prima Marketing blog, here

Halloween with Anna Marie - When I was a young girl, I would dress as a witch each year for Halloween, black hat and black dress.  Not very creative, I know, but simple.  I decided to take the beautiful, sweet Anna Marie collection and transform it into something spooky- to me this symbolizes the fun of trick'o'treat night.   The one night of the year that sweet little girls can transform into something different.

I started off with a plain paper mache hat from Darice that stands about 10 inches tall.  I covered in Anna Marie paper. I  added Prima stenciling to the brim of the hat in black embossing paste.

Glued some black tulle trim to the edge of the hat and started to layer my embellishments.

I punched a hat band from Prima's All About Me collection - "Write Me" paper and topped it with some green tulle, green Web Weave trim and then black cheesecloth.

A midst the Prima floral cluster, the button type shapes are Prima Mechanicals Vintage Center metal pieces.   I used a copper rub over them from Viva.

Here is a good shot of the Prima Mechanicals and the Viva Inca Gold copper rub that was used on the metal piece. The copper rub creates a wonderful effect on the metal.

Thanks so much for stopping.

Prima Marketing and Glitz team Up for a Swap

Prima Marketing and Glitz have teamed up this month to swap products in celebration of October/Halloween and all things frightful with the Raven Collection from Glitz.  First came projects
(you can see those  here ), and today is tag day and fun party ideas which can be found here

Also check out the Glitz Blog...they have some amazing Prima/Glitz projects from their team as well!

The Prima gals are playing with The Glitz Raven collection this month.  It is bold, bright and playful.   I thought I'd have some fun with the tag and keep it on the playful and cheery side dressing it up with some beautiful Prima Marketing flowers and crystals - yet keeping it fun with the Junkyard Faucet Wheels.

I love those Junkyard Faucet wheels.  They are fun, unique and fit right in with my cluster as a flower trinket outline.

I used a little black eyelash trim tucked here and there to  continue with a little creepy Halloween effect. Well, about as creepy as a tag can get.

Happy Halloween and thanks for stopping.

Flying Unicorn Mojo Monday - Oct 28th with FabScraps

Mojo Monday at the Flying Unicorns
Every Monday. the Flying Unicorns presents mojo Monday.  A weekly sketch challenge meant to jump start your mojo and inspire your creativity.  The designs are just dreamy - sketched by either Alda Stevens or Tammy Henderson.  This week. Alda has given it a whirl - and what a whirl it is!
The rules are rather simple - create and post onto the Mojo Monday thread for the corresponding week.  You can use your own supplies and whatever paper you want.  There are no requirements.  Easy!

This is my interpretation of the lovely sketch. I used FabScraps Shabbylicious collection and PrimaMarketing flowers to help me.

Here is the sketch you will use for the week of Oct 28- Nov 2nd.  So elegant and delicate. I continued with that overall feel.

(Vintage image is from the Graphic Fairy

I decided to use the FabScraps Shabbylicious collection for this for a simple reason.  The sketch feels very shabby chic to me and there is no better collection for shabby chic style than FabScraps Shabbylicious.

I used a FabScraps chipboard window and covered it with a FabScraps diecut made especially for this chipboard piece - very unique and clever set matching the chipboards to diecuts.

The word art chipboard piece from FabScraps has been covered in Stampendous Shabby Pink Embossing Enamel.

The little metal charms are from Flying Unicorns Metal Adornments collections.

Thanks Alda - and thanks to you for coming here and looking.
I value your time.

Flying Unicorns and Leaky Shed Chipboard Team Up in October

This month the Flying Unicorns and Leaky Shed Studios Chipboards have teamed up.

My friend asked me to create a piece for a 60th Anniversary of two lovebirds.  My friend supplied me with a  special photo of her Nana and Papa in the early days of their marriage when Papa won his first business  award.  This is the very moment he received it and is happily pointing to the award.  It is a great defining moment in their lives.

I showed my friend a whole selection of paper choices and color ideas that would help frame this sentimental image wonderfully.  She chose a few papers and told me to do my thing for her.

In "Jen" fashion, I just could not decide which paper and look I personally liked best so I created two pieces and let her make the difficult decision.  Then she could have one to keep as well.

The resulting pieces prove that the papers and the embellishments determine the overall feel and mood of the work.   Chipboard is an important element adding dimension, sentiment, elegance, and providing an anchor for the image.

Here are the Leaky Shed pieces I used on this layout (  The Memories piece is not shown but is Leaky Shed as well):

Chipboard does not need to be ornately finished.  All of my chipboard pieces on this layout simply had a topcoat of Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel. A little blast of my heat gun and BAM - done and elegant looking.

I frequently use chipboard neked or with a light coat of paint. It looks fabulous any way it's used.

This is the second piece created.  I used the Leaky Shed Victorian Oval to make the fussy ornate paper frame pop and give it dimension. You can see it in the inside edge.

Once again, all the Leaky Shed chipboard on this piece below were topped with gold embossing powder -easy and no fuss.   The frame also had a few Prima pearls in green for accent.

What I love about chipboard is that you can make it fit your needs  and vision.  I used the Ornate Corner shown above and cut it into four pieces.  Yes, it is absolutely spectacular "as is", but I just wanted a certain look so I cut the two side pieces off and used them as flourishes to my frame.  Then I used the bottom chipboard tip at the base of my frame.

The remaining piece was used at the top left corner of my page.

Here are  the supplies I used:

Prima Marketing and Glitz team up for Halloween Projects

Prima Marketing and Glitz have teamed up this month to swap products in celebration of October/Halloween and all things frightful.    The bold Glitz Raven Collection is great for playful pieces or spooky pieces.

In true Prima spirit, they have some opportunities for you to play along and have some fun.  You can check out the rules here and maybe win a prize from Prima.
Also check out the Glitz Blog...they are going to have some amazing Prima/Glitz projects from their team as well!

Prima Marketing is the best in the world when it comes to making pretty products but they have a whole lot of cool embellishments also that were perfect for my skeleton.  My skeleton is not a girly  piece.  I chose some Prima Wood Icon Gear embellishments for his joints and his heart.  I also thought the Junkyard Findings embellishments worked well here.  I grabbed the Junkyard Findings Car Parts and Faucet Wheels.

I also used the Prima Honey Comb stamp all over his body.  When it came to his head, I stamped some holes there too because my skeleton has "holes in his memory".  hehehe

Now for some of the Glitz Raven products used:  I opted for the 6" paper pack because the smaller print papers were better for my skeleton.  The Raven on his arm is from Glitz Whatnots.  I added black feathers, some Prima black crystals and some sugar dots on the hat and eye.

I used the Glitz cobweb stamp for his head -his head is full of cobwebs. Today is Monday after all, so maybe it's just his typical  Monday? Tues may be a better day for Mr Prima Bones.

Here is a little sample of the bold and fun Glitz Raven collection that I used.

I stuck the license plate from the Junkyard Findings Car Parts that says "Remember 2 Live your dream".  I thought it was funny and ironic stuck on a skeleton.  Dream away Bones.

Here is a close up of his head.  The eyeballs are from the AW1202 Glitz Raven Collection Titles & Accent Stickers.  I saw a set of eyeballs on the sheet so I added them.  Yeah - I am completely aware that skeletons do not have eyeballs, nor do they usually have Ravens on their shoulder,s so anything goes with this guy.

I love that his head is full of cobwebs and he has "holes in his memory" thanks to Prima's honeycomb stamp (960810 Prima Clear Stamp Honeycomb).   Maybe the holes will get filled with some Halloween sweets.

Black teeth are never a sign of good dental hygiene.  Better get that checked out, Bones - better yet, cut back on the sweets, Bones.

And last photo is Bone's partner, the Raven.  He is bedazzled in Prima sugar dots on this party hat and Prima black crystals on his wings.   The black feathers I added make him pop a little more as well.

You can see the full list of Prima and Glitz products if you scroll down.  Remember that product codes are used here as a reference tool to help expedite your internet shopping experiences .

I had so much fun matching the bold Glitz Raven collection with the fun and innovative embellishments from Prima Marketing.

Maja Design Mood Board for October

Maja Design Mood Board

Each month Maja Design has a Mood Board Challenge on their blog site. You can take inspiration from the photo, the words, the color palette - whatever moves you.

Here is a little excerpt from the Maja Blog with all the definitions and rules:
And here’s a little reminder of what our Mood Boards are used for…
Definition mood board - n
a board used by designers on which samples of various colours and textures are mounted to help in deciding which elements complement each other
We are using Mood Boards for our challenges. We truly believe in creativity and art at Maja Design. You are free to interpret the Mood Boards in any way you’d like. They are supposed to set you in an inspirational mood without too much controlling. We would like you to be inspired by the poems, words and photos. They are not given rules, they are just there as inspiration. A jury will pick a winner and will consider how the colors and theme were used. All Mood Boards are inspired by a specific Maja collection, but you are free to use any Maja papers you’d like as long as they follow the color scheme.
We are presenting a new mood board the first Tuesday of every month. We will be presenting all participating creations that fulfill the requirements below October 29th. We will also draw a winner who will be winning a Maja Design collection of their own choice in 6×6 or 12×12.
After your creation is done, take a photo and send it to moodboard@majadesign.nu without any watermarks (size 600×600). Include your full name and address +phone number in the e-mail together with what collection you would like if you win. Don’t forget to write down if you would like 6×6 or 12×12. We need your creation October 27th at the latest.
We will only publish creations that fulfill the requirements!
Hope those rules help! Why not play along?  Go here to check this out.
