Maja Design - The Pier

Maja Design has a collection of paper that will satisfy your every crafty desire.  Right now I desire a seaside warm escape.  ahhhhh.

The Pier
This is a photo that I took in July 2011 at the Naples, Florida Pier.  When I am here with my husband, it is my favorite place on the planet.  We go visit this place every year and I find such peace here.

I also accented with some shells that I picked up at that very beach.  Makes this page even more special for me.

The papers I chose are comforting and soothing.  The Maja Designs,  "Life by the Sea " Collection was made for my seaside escape.  I used the Bottle Message in the background,  The East Coast and the West Coast papers for my layers.

You can see the whole collection here.

Here is a little gesso over a a grapevine star.   This was picked up at a general craft store.

Thanks for looking at my blog.   You can try your hand at wining a collection of wonderful Maja Design papers each month as you play along with our Mood Boards.

Zva Creative January Blog Hop!

Happy New Year to you! Zva Creative and our talented 2013 Design Team welcome you to our January blog hop! We are very excited about month's hop and are excited to share our new work with you!

Today's Blog Hop begins at Zva Creative's blogBe sure head on over to check it out! Since many of us live in different time zones around the world, you will find a complete list of all the participating blogs there (in case there is a glitch along the way).

As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  If you like what you see along the hop you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.

So what did I create?  A Valentines Candy Dish
This month, I am showcasing the lime/olive crystals.  I decided to make a vintage style candy holder  for Valentines Day filled with candy kisses for my Sweetheart.  The candy holder is an old peanut container that I repurposed.

These are the ZVA products used on my project.
ZVA -CRX-05CB-107 - Flourish Lime/Olive Crystal ( used on the lid of the candy dish)
ZVA CRS-05CB-117 -Flourish Lime/Olive Crystal  (on the side of the candy dish)

In this photo, you can see how nicely the flourish wraps around my candy dish.  The olive/lime crystals are great for making anything feel vintage yet still dressing up your project with pizazz and flair.  Subtle yet showy - if that makes sense.  In my head, it makes perfect sense.

This is how my project started...after I finished the jar of peanuts.  YUM

If you would like to play along with our design team, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way!
The Blog Hop starts today, January 28th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, January 29th.
***Prizes***
Hidden on FIVE of the designer's blogs is a Zva Creative prize package! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over. All you need to do is leave a comment on this Blog Hop post... you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. Inkido - A few of My Favorite Things

Hello.   Jennifer Snyder here to show you a few of my favorite things from Inkido or to "Jen-able" you just a little.  There is too much to show so I had to shorten my list (yeah hard to do when all the products are amazing).

I love vintage art.  I love the appeal and the look of days long since past.  I often gaze into a photo and think about the clothing, the hairstyles, the culture from that era.  So it's fitting for me to be drawn to some of the gorgeous delicate laces from Inkido,  and the beautiful flowers that will fit onto my page as if they were pieces right from the photo.

I hope these little previews will get your mind working and thinking about all the ways you can use Inkido to enhance your art.
Thanks for looking....The Jen-abler.

FabScraps Adrenaline Collection -Bird Nest

It's here!  The new FabScraps Winter CHA2013 collections are out.  I can finally show them off.  oh this is a grand day indeed.

This is Adrenaline.  It's strong, masculine, mysterious and now it's also a birds nest. hahahahaha

BUT that being said, you do not necessarily need to do a masculine piece.   Don't be fooled -this paper is as versatile as your mind is creative.

FabScraps Adrenaline Collection

I decided to make a birds nest.   I had some fun bird images that I got from Graphics Fairy, did a little photoshop image adjustment and made them custom fit to my page.  This page started as a bit of a mistake in printing. When I printed off the first bird, I though, egads, you're rather big - whatever am I gonna do with you?  I went back to my photoshop and whittled out some smaller birds.  In the mean time, I received the new FabScraps collections and big momma bird chirped in my ear that she was just the right size and the perfect color for these strong papers.   So that's how this piece started (with my imaginary conversations hahahahaha).

I have shared the bird images for you down below.

This banner type embellishment was created using FabScraps chipboard CD Dog Tags/ Medal Rounds DC54 003.   Dog tags?  Nope -no more.  They are just right for banners and chevrons.

In this photo you can see the dimension of my layout.  My birds are backed with cardboard for the dimension.

Visit FabScraps on Facebook and at the FabScraps Blog to see all the FabUlous ways to use the new collections.

Thanks for looking.

Maja Design - Winter Girl (Maud Humphrey)

Today I am here with you to show you a winter piece using the Ska Vi Ta En Fika Collection from Maja Design.

I love pairing rich chocolate with soft blush pinks.  It's warm yet can convey chill as well - if that makes sense.  It makes sense to me.  I have never seen such gorgeous chocolate papers than these in the Fika Collection.

For now, let me keep drooling over the Maja Design papers.   When my collections arrived, I have to admit that the Fika paper called Kladdkaka was the first one I pulled out to admire ( the brown flowered paper).

For all my non-Swedish friends wondering what Kladdkaka is?  I looked this up in Google.  That's when it hit me exactly WHY this paper spoke to me.

Kladdkaka (lit. Gooey cake but more commonly known as "chocolate mud cake") is a type of Swedish cake. This dense sticky chocolate cake is similar to the American brownie but has a soft and viscous center ( maybe like what we would know as chocolate lava cake?).  It is sometimes eaten with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.  Yes yes yes - this paper is delicious in every way!!!

I rolled and crinkled my edges by wetting them with water and then drying with a heat gun.  From there, I roll and curl and rip.

This page is layered up as snugly as the little darling in the image by Maud Humphrey.    Maud was the mother of Humphrey Bogart -legendary actor.  I was fascinated to learn that Maud was born and raised in my city.   There is more information about Maud further in this blog for those who are interested.

In this image, you can see a little more clearly my use of the Kaisercraft  Wheat template that was created using molding paste then topped with glitter fibers while it was wet.

The wonderful pink layer is from this collection:

Here you can see the butterfly handcrafted by Renea Harrison - reneabouquets.

Maud Humphrey

(1868 Rochester, NY - 1940 Hollywood, CA)

Humphrey postcard #1Before she became primarily known as Humphrey Bogart's mother, Miss Humphrey was recognized as an illustrator of children's books. As early as the 1890's, she was illustrating calendars, greeting cards and fashion magazines, as well as painting portraits of socialite children.  Into the 1920's, her advertising designs promoted Prudential Insurance and Ivory Soap, and her artwork graced the covers of Harper'sand Century magazines. Several series of her illustrations of children were published as postcards, beginning around 1908.

Oh one more thing:
You need a photo of Kladdkaka.

And you need a video recipe too!  YUM!

ZVA Creative- Playing in the Snow

This is a layout I create using my ZVA Creative goodies to celebrate winter.

I don't like winter so I need to make the most of it and celebrate it ( indoors with my pretty papers and bling).

I took a photo of my nieces last winter  when they were staying for a visit.  We played dress up before mommy came to grab them from Aunt Jen's house.  Such good sports.

I selected some pink products to adorn my layout.
ZVA Creative CRW-05CA-116 Symmetrical Flourishes - Pink Pearl
ZVA Creative CR-04CB-121 -Lovely in Pink Pearl
ZVA Creative  FL-04CA-124 - 3" Frosty Pink and White flowers

I grabbed my Scraps of Darkness kit for December because it contained the perfect chilly papers I needed.

Here is a closer look at the Frosty Pink flower and the pink pearl flourish called "Lovely".

Here is a close up of the  CRW-05CA-116 Symmetrical Flourishes in Pink Pearl.  They are very delicate.

Scraps Of Elegance -January Reveal "A Dream Within A Dream"

Welcome to the Scraps of Elegance January release, A Dream Within A Dream.

Dreamy indeed when you pair 13 Arts Papers with FabScraps, toss in some unique handcrafted establishments by ReneaBouquet and  a host of heavenly goodies.  Melinda is the leading expert in the industry for assembling a gorgeous kit dripping with elegance.

Little Girl on a Walk
This piece uses the monthly design by Charlotte Jenkins, also know in the scrap world as the talented suepup.  Each month, Scraps of Elegance runs a sketch challenge based on the designs by Charlotte.  Please consider checking them out and playing along.

This piece uses the rich royal papers from FabScraps -Enchanted Gardens Collection - Blue Heron and Blue Heron 2.  Gorgeous indeed.

I accentuated the Blue Heron by slicing his wing and lifting it up and adding some rich brown feathers under it.  I coated the entire bird with Crackle Accents, the sprinkled some teal colored micro beads while the Crackle Accents was wet.

Valentine Canvas
As the title says, this is a canvas. I've decided that canvas' are tons of fun to create.  This one was simple.  I dumped out the box of Pink Paislee  hearts  and scattered them on my canvas to see what if would look like if I was carefree.  I liked the results so it went from there and I did the same thing with the Prima Interlude Pink flowers.  Fun, simple easy.

The sparkly glitter in the background is Stampendous Frantage Shaved Ice.  It's like chunky  mica flakes - iridescent in appearance so it picks up some of the pink on my background.

I did add a thin layer of molding paste to my canvas before I started so that the colors of the mist would set well.

Cherub Angel All Dressed up ( Featured at 13 Arts Blog)
The cupid is from an old postcard.  I thought it needed a flowing gown so I created one with cheesecloth gauze.   Cheesecloth is one of those essentials that can be bought at a number of places from the hardware store (paint department), to the grocery store (baking department), to the fabric store (sold by the yard and also prepackaged in notions section).   Of course you can buy from a craft and hobby store, but your best economic buy may be from a more creative place.

I used the divinely inspired 13 Arts Frosted Life collection straight from Poland.  Oh my goodness is this spectacular paper.  This piece uses Moon Dust and Cold Wall.

I also grabbed the handcrafted butterflies by ReneaBouquets  ( Renea Harrison) to adorn my angel.

The chipboard piece frame is from Blue Fern Studios (Blue Fern Frame) that is no longer a frame after I cut it up and decided it made great angel wings.

Please stop by and join us at Scraps of Elegance.  Create something beautiful today.
