Flying Unicorns and FabScraps present - November Off the Page Project - Advent Calendar

This is an Advent Calendar. How perfect for the upcoming Christmas season.
I created this with FabScraps Angelic Christmas Collection which can be found in the Flying Unicorns store.  Scroll to the end to find the product links.

I made some trees out of cardboard.  I made these once before on a different Christmas project  and loved them so much that I made them again. You can see easy detailed instructions if you scroll to the end of this blog.

If you want to create a simple block style calendar, then there here is a bit of heartache I will spare you...the numbering sequence for the blocks.  I learned the hard way by slapping the numbers on with just a little thought to them.  Not much thought though.  When I tested my blocks for all the days of the month, I fell a little short.  Womp womp.

One block needs to have the following: 0,1,2,3,4,5
The second block needs to have: 0,1,2,7,8,9 (also used as a 6)

The chipboard is a FABulous piece indeed.  I painted it white first then used the Stampendous Aged Embossing Enamel to coat it.  I left the Santa figure without embossing and glued a FabScraps Sticker onto it.  Warning to emboss first or your sticker will end up warped and crazy from the heat of the heat gun.

Make sure you use the "recipe " for the numbers on the blocks or you'll be missing a few days in the month.   Nothing like having  to relive a Monday because you left it off the calendar.  heheehe

Here is a better view of my trees. Like looking down on the forrest - well sort of.

A close up of the sweet little FabScraps sticker that I have backed with cardboard to support it and make durable for a dimensional project.

Instructions
1.     Wood Blocks and Stand Preparation:
2.     Start with FabScraps  Angelic Christmas Collection – Blessed Times 1 paper C61005.  Cover the base of the block holder – both inside and out, all the sides and the back
3.     Paint blocks with gesso or white acrylic paint.
4.     Cover the blocks with Angelic Christmas – Angelic 2 paper.
5.     There are three thin wooden rectangles where the months of the year would normally be placed under the blocks, these will now be used as snowdrifts.  Paint all three pieces white.  Cover only one side (the side that will be exposed and facing out) with snow texture paste and top with iridescent seed beads while still wet.
6.     Add the numbers to the blocks.  I used thin chipboard that was coated with Aqua Antique embossing enamel.  You can also use stickers or paint.   Numbers need to be added as follows - and this is very important or your calendar will not work:
One block needs to have the following: 0,1,2,3,4,5      The second block needs to have: 0,1,2,7,8,9 (also used as a 6)
7.     “Merry Christmas”  Chipboard Preparation:
8.     FabScraps Angelic Christmas – Merry Christmas chipboard DC61 005 – paint with gesso or white acrylic.
9.     Apply embossing powder to the chipboard words only. Treat with heat gun.
10.   Take FabScraps sticker of Santa Clause - Angelic Christmas Collection – Stickers ST61 001 and glue to the chipboard covering the chipboard Santa figure.
11.   Glue chipboard to the back of the wooden stand slightly right of center so that the chipboard hangs off the left side of the wood stand.
12.   Tree Preparation:
13.   Cut three triangles from cardboard – all different sizes.  One triangle sized 5in x 3in, 6inx3in, 7inx3in.
14.   Rip the right edge of the cardboard  so that the cardboard is jagged and part of the corrugation is showing.
15.   Paint the cardboard with gesso and leave a little of the corrugation unpainted.
16.   Cover the trees with FabScraps Angelic Christmas collection – Festive Bells paper C61 004.  Leave the corrugated edge uncovered.
17.   Coat the corrugated edge with embossing ink making a little bit spill over onto the FabScraps Special Times green paper.   Cover with white antique embossing powder and shake off excess. Set with heat gun.
18.   Layer the trees and glue together to create a layered dimensional effect.   Glue trees to the wooden stand.
19.   Finishing Touches:
20.   Glue string pearls around the sides and top of the wooden stand.
21.   Add flowers and floral berry picks to the sides as desired.
22.   Tuck in some lace on each side within the floral clusters.
23.   Pick a Santa sticker from Angelic Christmas Collection – Stickers ST61 001. Adhere the sticker to white cardstock.  Cut the form out from the cardstock.  This gives the sticker a nice robust appearance since the stickers are a little transparent.
24.   Glue the sticker to a piece of cardboard and  glue to the right side of the cluster.  The cardboard gives the Santa sticker some durability so he does not bend.
25.   Start counting down the days till Christmas
26.   Have a Merry Christmas!
